Hey guys... .

I did a good amount of work to my 01 3500 DRW Auto this past week, and was finally able to reap the rewards today...

List of installed goodies is as follows... .

-Industrial Injections Silver 62 turbo (they claim the highest powered towing turbo ever made, and I do not doubt it, although I have only my stock hx35 to reference on this truck)

-Ind. Inj's 4 flow injectors

-Spearco Intercooler (my EGTs seem to have gotten some real help here)

-TST powermax (stacked with the smarty I already had on setting 8)

-DiPricol gauges (trans temp, egt, fuel press, and boost)

-CFM plus intake

-Still in progess, Pacbrake (inline mount, but I managed to weld it in very close to the turbo)

-Snow meth kit

-ISSPRO turbo timer (I am terrible with wiring, and I am trying to take my time and make sure I get it spot on)

In any case, I am very very impressed with the power it is putting down. I would guestimate well into the 500/1000 range. It pulls like a raped ape, and the wastegate barks nice and loud. It tops out at 50 psi of boost.

I just wanted to give a big thumbs up to Industrial Injection. The were very friendly, easy to talk to on the phone (guided me a bit), and have a top notch product. So much so that I called back up an ordered the hot rod VP44.

Another big thumbs up for the TST powermax. I had heard reviews both ways on their boxes, and I was worried that the power might be too violent for lack of a better description. Even on setting 9, the power seemed smooth and very very abundant. I definitely think the spearco unit did a good deal to help control the EGTs as well.

Hope people in the market for a towing turbo that makes really decent power find this useful.

Cheers

John

Good to hear your happy. You should be closer to 550 hp if the 4 flows are in the 150 hp range injectors.

I love mine also.

I just ordered some goodies to help the silver62 get the air in the engine better. An ats arc flow intake and an AFE stage 2 pro dry s and some BD intercooler boots and clamps. I think this was why I was short of the 1000 torque on the dyno last time. I can peg the filter minder just daily driving. The walker airsep I have was good up to about 450 hp but with this turbo an intake upgrade was a must. Even so, egts are never an issue but this should make it better. :)

Billvo, has your fluidamper made any difference you can feel in engine vibration? I'd like to get one of these eventually. I'm hoping it'll help prolong engine life, cause I plan on running my truck till the wheels fall off:)

I have never had a vibration issue but with the BD 155 injectors came a real annoying lope. It did smooth the loping out by 50% or better. Now to get rid of the rest of the lope with mach4's and hopefully a smoother running engine. BD90's were super, BD 155's are not good at all. Get the damper if it could smooth out a lope it will definately smooth out vibrations. :)

JohnBuuu... . How much weight have you towed with the Silver 62? What rpm does it light? I have the 4 flows in my truck too & just trying to compare apples. How do you like the 4 flows? I think they are the cleanest, smoothest injectors that I've run to date.

Cummins724, I just installed all of this, so I havent towed anything yet. I am taking my brothers Buick GN to get dyno tuned on a 36ft gooseneck (just a tiny bit overkill for a single car haha) in a few days, but I will know then.
I actually am smoking a fair bit right now, even with the TST turned off, if I get into the boost very much at all, I am making at least some smoke.
I merged onto a highway today with the TST on 9, and left like a quater mile trail of thick black smoke, which is kind of fun, but I can almost hear the greenies complaining over the wastegate.
Anyways, its good fun, but I kind of wish that I could get on the throttle a little more without as much smoke. I think the most prudent fix is to remove my rear view mirror. I might try turning the smarty down from level 8 too.

You are getting all that smoke because you aren't running any timing to clean it up. Smarty odd settings will help. Try running sw3 & you should clear the smoke up some... . besides Smarty will give the same power on sw3 as it does on sw8 anyways. My truck doesn't smoke at all with Smarty & comp turned off, but smokes like a train when Smarty is loaded. I was talking to Codie at II & he said that he is only running RV275 injectors & spooling a Silver 62..... you should be fine towing. Actually this is where the Silver should shine due to the large turbine.

What RPM or # boost does this turbine light?

I have an ancient KSB1-B and it lights at about 10#.

What about turbine bark?

When my auto transmission goes into lockup it will bark just about every time (under towing load) and then it flutters (little power) till it picks up about 5 mph. I just lock O/D out until about 2200 so when I shift it into O/D at about 52 mph (vs 45 mph if I do not shift it) there is enough flow to keep it from barking and fluttering.

Cummins 724... .
I was under the impression that the TST box managed the timing, but I am new to diesel perf. I thought the odd setting on the smarty would conflict with the TST. If smarty on no. 3 makes the same power as no. 8, then why shouldnt I just put it on 9? Odd settings have timing correct.
Thanks for your help bro

Have you ran Mach injectors before? Or have you just tried different II injectors?

I haven't run F1 injectors, but I have had my truck sitting next to a few trucks that were running them & my truck idled smoother than theirs. I have run John Link injectors, RV275's, Bullydog. I ran 3 sets of II sticks & loved every set. I have heard nothing but great things about F1 injectors, but II injectors are working so well in my truck that I haven't even considered trying another brand.

I just went for a long ride to play around with the smarty settings, etc. I tried 5 7 and 3. 3 seems to be the hands down winner. Equal power, and much much improved smoke control. I can ease right into boost, and as long as I dont hammer it off the line, no real visible smoke.
Also, it feels pretty much equal in power to say number smarty 9 with the TST box on 9, as it does with smarty on 3, and tst on 9. Of course it smokes heavily then but thats obviously the TST box, not the smarty.
Once again, huge thumbs up for the II stuff.

I can't wait to send my SPS 62 back and get it modded to a Silver 62!!! That's the one I run Also Smarty 3 TST 4/2 fuel pressure on 3 with 3 degree's of timing... THe higher settings on the TST doesn't really mean more power, you have to find that sweet spot. I wished I had a dyno to see where things are the happiest, but like metioned, the setting I have now are where the trucks feels happiest.

How much boost are you getting? EGT readings?

Under what conditions?
I cant get my EGTS higher that 1200 or so, so far, even with the TST box turned up all the way and with sustained full throttle bursts. I have not tried lugging it up any long grades yet though.

ETA, I can peg it at 50lbs of boost.

John... your choice of PM3/Smarty combo is a great one. TST does NOT do timing, while Smarty does. I am itching for new turbo to really take advantage of the combo. Silver62 is sounding nice.

What is HTT's closest equivalent to the Silver62?

I am still on the fence HTT vs II... . My buddy just upgraded to a hybrid HX35/40 in order to keep his Jake and I'm impressed with cust service at HTT. .

You would be more than happy with a HTT 62/71/13ss. The stainless housing is the new thing.

Unless you add more fuel I think the sps62 or what Cummins 724 said will be plenty for you.

IMO: the HTT ss series May be a good thing, but I would wait on the sidelines for the overall opinions to start coming in on this. The II turbos are proven already. :)

HTT and II turbo's are both great. I've had them both and I'm not going to get in a ******* match with which one I think is better, but either way you can't go wrong... .

What benefit does the SS housing provide other than looking killer? Does it have a better surface finish internally, promoting better flow? SS anything costs more than non-stainless, so for the extra $$ there should be a measurable benefit. My engine bay isn't so pretty now, so I am not too concerned about the looks.

If the performance diff is worth it, though... .
