My friend has a 2000 F250 2WD extended cab long bed with the 7. 3 and automatic. He is retired and pulls a 31' Airstream all over the mid US going to shooting matches in the summer. It has been pretty impressive and really got me to thinking about a diesel. He has a 4" exhaust, K&N filter, Hypertech chip, 80 gal auxillary tank. He says nobody passes him when he gets in the hills and he passes lots of Duramaxes and Dodges. After doing research and spending a lot of time on TDR I got my 04 Dodge six shooter 4x4 and it is still fairly stock. We were both running with just our hunting stuff loaded in each truck, caravaning north of Sheridan, Wy. , talking on the walkie talkies. I was in front of him and going down the hills, he would run up on me. On one long hill I finally asked him if he was coasting or racing, (we were doing about 70). He pulled up beside me and said his automatic did not hold him back as well as my manual transmission did. I said well lets see what that big bad Ford can do and he punched it. He got just about a fender on me before I got the pedal down and I started to walk him up the hill. Pulled him about a length and shut down at about 85-90. He told me when we stopped for lunch that if he didn't have all that fuel in his aux tank he would have pulled me easy. I explained my truck was a 4X4 and probably outweighed him but he insisted his 2X4 Ford was heavier. Yeah, OK. He has been doggin every Dodge guy he runs into for years, but he has kinda shut-up lately. (Just wait til I get my TST in. ) Today, I got a call from him saying his transmission started puking oil out the front and it just cost him $2500 to get it fixed in Billings. He's got about 75K miles on it. Don't know what the original warranty was. I think there just might be a Dodge in his future.

I hate to tell him, but stock for stock even a 4x4 ford similar equipped truck weighs considerably less that a dodge.

Nah, from what I've seen Fred PS owners keep going back into the barn even though it's on fire! Go over to dieselstop.com & read some of the sad posts by guys who have bought their second POS PS 6. 0! Just don't seem to learn.

I was at a big party this summer, partially sponsored by Ford SD trucks. There were two '05 prototypes on display. A King ranch dually that was a V10 and an Amarillo F350 SRW 6. 0. I started talking to the Fred engineer there babysitting the trucks. Asked him if they've solved the problems with the 6. 0. "What problems?" was his reponse. I mentioned a few of the well known ones and threw out the buyback number I've heard. He didn't have time to talk to me any more after that. Have to admit I liked the looks of the Amarillo. Bright yellow!

Going back for more ...

Do you think they arrive at the dealership in a tow truck, walk into the showroom, bend over, put their hands on their knees, look up and yell . . . .

THANK YOU SIR!!! MAY I HAVE ANOTHER???

I came over from the dark side about a year ago. I had owned two 7. 3L Fords ("early 99 & late '02). I had un-resolvable performance issues with both. I am very happy with my Dodge.

People told me diesels need to get 10K miles on them before they break in. I put around 100K on my Fords waiting for that to happen, and it never did. If anything performance steadily declined from the day I drove them off the lot. I now have 8K on my Dodge and I definitely notice performance improving. Fuel consumption has improved by around 2 MPG.

After owning two dodges a 96 gassesr and 99 diesel I went and spent two years on the dark side I knew better because all of the trucks at work had injector and other issues, but I had to have four full size doors alot of good those doors did me while that thing was sitting in the shop. After two years I finally had enough of Ford and all there excuses and went and got a 04. 5 Cummins and couldn't be happier. After spending two years reading the posts on dieseltruck.com I have to agree those guys will never learn. They get sick of all the problems with the 7. 3 and then go give ford some more money for a 6. 0 and then complain about the problems with those. Amazing.
