Hello Everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a RAM 2500 with Cummins and have found a wealth of info surfing the web, but curious to get some feedback on a current value of one I'm looking at.

2012 Ram 2500
ST Model - 2 Wheel Drive (I figured out I don't need 4wd)
Crew Cab, Short Box (I really want a short box with my parking situation)
Chrome Package
Cloth Interior - perfect condition
Running Boards
Clearance Lights on Roof
Trailer Brake Controller
Cummins Engine
Tires have about 10k left on them I feel
Has some "accident" on the history...but said to be very minimal - who knows, but the truck looks good - didn't see any frame repair looking under.
33k Miles -with remaining Factory Warranty (I like the low miles and some warranty left)
Full Service History at Dealer
For sale at RAM dealer - it has an asking price of $32k, now reduced to $30k - it has been for sale for 6 months total between 2 "sister" RAM dealers...so I think now is the time to pounce and make an offer.

I sold my Tundra Crewmax 4 Wheel Drive end of last year...and started driving/towing with my old faithful 00 F150 I've had since new.

Long story short...I want a diesel...I tow about 12-15x/year with a single car hauler - no more than 6000lbs, but looking for some versatility to tow a 2 car hauler in the future.

I've heard many good things about the RAM/Cummins - test drove the one above yesterday...and like it.

What should I expect the final value to be....i.e....what is a good offer in the end.

Thanks in advance!!

Step up to a 2013 with DEF and it will get better fuel mileage. You might still find an unsold 2013 Tradesman at a price cheaper than an used 2012. Chris

Snoking - Thanks for your response. It seems some mixed opinions on Pre-DEF Cummins and those with the DEF. I guess if I do not modify the one with the DEF is better.

Living in the Southeast - I'm scouring the web for 2012's and 2013's - I guess I need to increase my radius- do you have any thoughts on the value of the 2012?

Thanks again,

Best thing to do is use Autotrader. That way you can choose the options you want to refine the search, then refine it further with locations. I live in SE Louisiana and found my truck in Beaumont, Tx.

Use Autotrader, KBB, Edmunds, etc to price it properly.

I searched for over a year before I found my signature truck.

As sad as it is, you may actually find a 2014 for the same price or occasionally cheaper than a used 2013 - I went through this last month. By and large the 2012s and 2013s were within $2k of a new 2014. It's a huge nut to cover, but it would appear that the instant depreciation of $10k from driving it off the lot comes back within the year. I am not sure what the deal is. Might be that because the new trucks are running the mid 40's to upper 50s depending on options, those that are selling used are jumping the prices up because they can get it.

I'd be in a Cummins now if it were not for the fact I needed/wanted a long bed. I could have grabbed a 2014 crew cab 3500 SRW short bed for $38k and 2200 miles on it.

That would have been a heckuva deal...I'm not seeing all these deals....I guess I keep shopping...the 2012 RAM 2500 I mentioned sold today before I could make a deal..uggh.

It probably should have been the one I went with. My long bed is a land barge. I thought my 02 had a huge turning radius. Strip mall parking lots are not fun.

Unfortunately I'm too far away from you guys in the south-west being located in Canada near the top of Lake Superior, but I do have a 2012 2500 SLT (Cummins 6.7) Crew Cab Long Box 4WD that could be bought for $US 36,000. At present time this truck has 26,000 km (16,150 miles) on it. Factory warranty to Sept 2015. I picked this truck up as I thought it might be a good replacement for my '98 2500 5.9 Cummins 12-Valve that has served me well for 15 years - but with all this electronics and emission control system, I'm not so sure any more and may consider in changing to gas. Likely some of you will have comments on that.

The sticker that I pulled up appears to be the factory sticker. The discount is where it gets phony- they are adding all possible rebates/discounts together and deducting them. I don't believe there is anyway to ever have them all apply to a purchase.

All manner of things have to happen to get all the discounts. Current or retired MIL, Current Dodge/Ram owner, trading in another brand truck, Certain financial institutions, Corporate employment, blah, blah, blah.

The dealership where I bought mine was knocking up to $10k off MSRP, then any discounts you qualified for after that. Still could not get a Cummins down to $42k out the door, taxes paid. I did find a dealership that had 4 trucks identical to each other (sequential VIN as well) but their final price after discounts somehow jumped up $1000 over the previous truck. IOT Truck #1 was $4k less than truck #4.

When the '15s are ready to start rolling out, there will be another huge blowout sale on the 14s. I was advised of this, and suggested that if I really wanted to get into a Cummins, I should try to hold out until then and hope there would be one available with my specs.

I agree with Sticks after looking for a loooong time. The trucks on the lot, in inventory, can be purchased a lot cheaper that one ordered. Don't know why that is but it was universal in my search. The truck I bought was 5K more a couple months before and was being offered as an internet special. Got 7K off from the dealer and then 3K more from Ram. The truck was almost what I would have ordered and had the Aison in a SRW. Joe Donnelly helped me search for a 2013 to get the better discount but I could not find my color choice and model close enough to suit my tastes. Plus the one I found was 240 miles away as opposed to out of state. By waiting to year end you will get a better deal but you won't find everything to your liking. Unless your middle name is lucky. And if you could locate a demo with very few miles at year end you could probably get a high end model for 12-14K off MSRP.

Good luck on the search.
