Well guys my turbo-a Holset HX40W that was worked on by Majestic(bulleted both sides, machined for the air filter hose connection and balanced--anyway that's what they said they did) blew up today---exactly one week after it's been installed---this happened to Briar Hopper also that I know of---he's in the process of trying to see if anyone-Holset or Majestic- will own up to some sort of fault, but I think he & I will probably take it up the you know what. Hopefully that's not the case, but growing suspicions make me think we will be out some $$$$$. It's not been a good day to say the least!!! I'll call Majestic tomorrow & see what they say, but anyway--just take note if you plan to use Majestic or get a HX40w. Maybe Holset has a bad batch or maybe Majestic is doing something beyond what they told Briar Hopper and me that's making these things fail--anyway just a heads up, right now my feeling is both parties have equal blame & reponsibility until this thing get's figured out----I'll keep ya posted----chris

don't know yet but the shaft is either broken or the bearings are toast or??? There's no boost at all--when I get it off maybe I'll have more info--hopefullly tomorrow--chris

Wiz will probably chime in here on this one, I believe he is in possesion of some useful info about turbo prepping(trimming/balancing) and the HX40.

I kept quiet on this issue for a long time, when perhaps I shouldn't have... I was waiting to see how the principals involved handled the situation. I waited and waited and waited... I sent the blown turbo to Majestic, they sent it to sport bike (who I bought it from) and he sent it to Holset. All this passing my turbo around like a football took a few weeks. Sport bike kept asking me to be patient while all this was going on. I assumed he had some kind of an "in " with Majestic, and I did not want to queer his relationship with them. The techs at Holset, according to sport bike, said they could tell quite plainly the turbo had been "monkeyed" with... and they refused to warranty it. The ball is back in Majestic's court.
I installed the turbo with the help of two experienced GLTDR members, and finished the installation under the eye of none other than Mark Chapple, who approved of the work we did installing it and making sure it was properly oiled. It blew up less than 2 miles from Mark's place, at less than 25 psi of boost, not even full throttle. Luckily, it didn't send any pieces into my engine...
I then bought a non-monkeyed Hx40 from Mark, and installed it, again while he watched. This one has survived a few weeks, and will probably continue to do so...
sport bike was gracious enough to send me a replacement to send to Mark in order to get my money back so I wouldn't be out the price of TWO turbos... I didn't ask him to do so, he offered and I accepted. Now instead of going after Majestic, a company he enthusiastically recommended on this website, he wants me to send him payment and go after Majestic, myself.
Well, sport bike, I waited and waited, thinking you were handling the situation and would make these clowns at Majestic understand that they need to honor the warranty they so nicely sent to me with the monkeyed turbo. I and the other guys here DO need you to tell these monkeys what the score is. For right now, I need to pay an attorney or finance a trip to Texas to get the money back, one or the other. BUT, we WILL get it back...

Wow! What a mess, I hope everything works out.

Warranty was in writing. I don't intend to be calm or level-headed about this. THAT'S MY guarantee to Majestic !
Majestic insists they did not touch the bearing center section, yet they told my son on the phone that they did, and the Holset technicians confirm that, judging by their autopsy of the remains, going by what sport bike told me.
There are many more instances of their suspicious customer service, that were mentioned in these forums. Odd prices, that got higher, every time you called, or lower, sometimes... reversing themselves when explaining exactly what they do to these turbos, first talking about bearings,or "trimming" vanes, and then saying they only "balance" both ends...
I'm sure they have their supporters in this forum, and perhaps they do provide a valuable and highly effective service, but Csutton and I have been cheated of the benefits that sport bike and Marco and others have enjoyed with their turbos. Given the mess this situation has become, and the hard feelings it has probably caused,I doubt we'll get to experience a nearly lag-free turbo for ourselves.

This is an awful development without question #ad
I just want to say that in support of Sportbike I have (via phone) offered to let Chris run my HX40 for the time being till this is meated out. Chris is on my side of the great divide and I'll cover this end. What I heard was that Holset isn't going to cover a problem on a modified turbo and I can appreciate their position. That would point back to Majestic to make things right. I just hope that a just settlement can be achieved. Other then that I've got Sportbike's back on the left coast. We talk a lot and he has my support #ad

I have NO problem with sport bike, nor do I want one, but I do need his support to get the $$$ from these people. One way or the other, we'll get it taken care of, nobody is leaving anyone holding the bag here, if we can help it.
I NEVER had a problem with sport bike through all this, and at one point in a conversation with another West Coast TDR member, told him sport bike was "one of us" and had nothing to do with the mess at Majestic... I'm pretty sure during all the waiting we did, he was hoping as much as I was that these people in Texas would step up to the plate and do the right thing. But I do believe I realized a lot earlier than he did that Majestic was not going to be honorable.
I won't leave him hanging with the cost of the turbo, regardless of the outcome. As sport bike pointed out to me in an email, it was MY decision to get the turbo done at Majestic.

I have heard back from Sportbike and he will call Majestic as will I tomorrow morning, so it will be interesting to hear what they say.

A big thanks must go out to HVAC for offering the use of his HX40, but I will put back on the stock unit instead as it's less complicated at this point and who knows how long it will take to work this out, especially with Briar Hopper still trying to get a resolution on his turbo!!!

There is something definitely wrong, either with Holset or Majestic--maybe it's a bad run of turbos or Majestic's work is subpar--Briar Hopper and I have the same parameters on the turbos--same turbo bought thru the same guy with the exact same work done by Majestic and both blew up.

So you members out there I'd hold off on the Majestic work until this gets worked out, not that they are at fault, but they were the last people to touch it and are first in line for the warranty issue, plus Holset looks like they won't honor their warranty after Majestic touches it and Majestic hasn't helped Briar Hopper out yet!!!!---chris

Gentleman,
I have an HX-40 with the Majestic thing done.
Got it from John/Sb.
It has seen any kinda abuse. Been up to 54Psi and lifted the right foot... . Wastegate is disabeled!

No problems at all!

I guess someone has more luck than someone other??
Marco.

sport bike hasn't had any trouble with HIS turbo, he's done the same thing as Marco, had it way up there, and it's still going strong.
Doesn't matter, there's at least two of us now that are waiting to see if this company backs up it's warranty. Like Sutton says, they were the last ones to touch the turbos. And they DID enclose a written warranty with the turbos, which they have refused to honor for a month now in my case.

I will be on the phone to Majestic as soon as they open and see what there stand is on this, I have spent alot of time up there with the crew. Have had one of there 40s one my truck for awile now with no problems and 42psi I will post there response.

Well it was a short & sweet conversation--I said turbo broke and they said send it back to us ASAP--which I will do by Monday at the latest and then I'll call them when it gets there and see what gives---chris

Sorry to hear all your trouble.

I hope the Majestic people will stand behind their job!
What can I say, my turbo works really GREAT.
Nearly no turbo lag with the majestic job.

Most of all, I'm sorry for John being involved into this story.
He's a good guy, always ready to help!

Maybe if we swamp those Majestic guys with mails??

Marco.

wow , glad i caught this i was all set to get an HX40 and send it down there , i also called them and it seemed that the price went up from what was originally posted a month or so ago .

guess i will have to wait , arcticat has a turbo he just got back from majestic that we were thinking of throwing on my truck , guess will have to see what the outcome is before it goes on anyone truck .

For what it's worth, I need to say publicly that if I've caused sport bike any grief or problems, then I'm sorry. He was only trying to do us all a good turn, by getting us some high performance turbos as cheaply as possible, and it's unfortunate he got caught in the middle.

Briar,
you have MY highest respect!
Only few people in your situation would have stated what you did!
It's nice to meet a REAL Gentleman.
Marco.
