2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Hydraulic Break Booster

I recently replaced the hydraulic break booster on 2 different trucks, one 2002 for a friend and one 2001 at work. On both trucks after installing the new booster the break pedal would not return far enough to open the switch for the break lights and the break lights were staying on all the time. I add a shim to the pedal arm so it would activate the switch. Does anyone know why this is or what I may have done wrong to cause this?

I doubt you did anything wrong. There was probably just enough difference in the units to cause the switch to be out of adjustment. There is a procedure for adjusting the switch. For 99 model it was (hold brake pedal down and pull switch plunger all the way out to fully extended position, push plunger in four detents and release brake pedal, lightly pull up on brake pedal. ) That should do it if it is the same for those models. bg
