Not cheap by no means. They want 3850 drop at my door. I know that there a better price somehow down the road. Do any of you know how to get the trans for a discount on price. The trans Is good up to 450 horse power he said. My engine Is stock. What am I going to do. My wife will kill me.

You're right that transmissions are not cheap at all. But IMHO I think in the case of transmissions, you get what you pay for. I know this won't help you pay for it, but maybe at least justify it.

You will definitely get what you pay for. I paid almost exactly the same amount in 2002 for my ATS Stage IV. It's got about 70,000 miles on it, mostly city driving, and it's still the best thing I ever did to my truck. Also, once you get the ATS, many parts inside their trans have been re-engineered and upgraded, so you won't have to replace those parts on a rebuild. For instance the TC--I expect to put hundreds of thousands of miles on this TC--I expect it to be the last one I ever buy. While a stock TC, from what I have read on this site, only lasts about 70-100,000 miles if you are moderately bombed. But I hate to generalize--the bottom line is the harder you drive it, the less the stock trans will last--unlike the ATS unit which is engineered for massive torque and the long haul.

I also have a 1995 Dodge diesel Motor home automatic. I would like to be able to toe my car trailer but afraid to with the stock trans.

Maybe Its my fault for asking questions.

Icalled ATS back to order the transmission and torque converter and I got another mike. The price Is not the same as the first Mike said. I can't afford that. Stage five55 hundred no way I can afford that. I just will not pull with the motor home I guess. I never had a automatic trans go out but what I have heard about the Dodge scares me. It act lazy going In overdrive. First second and third are fine. Once It locks up I am off and gone. So If you see me walking along side of the road at least wave. Now TDR don't be mad those guys were trying to help me as I know that they would help you. They are just a bunch of good old boys. Now If you are going to blame anyone blame me.

any upgraded trans is completely night and day from the stocker. you wont regret it, i know it is a kick in the bean bag at first, i should know i have bought 2 so far (first one had stock shafts). just swallow it, do it once do it right.

Sorry to say but you can't swallow what you can't afford. Especially these days. That money could be a few tanks of fuel. Welcome to the new third world country.

I've removed a few posts in this thread concerning other transmission companies. Since the original post was directed at purchasing an ATS transmission, discussions of other transmission brands is not allowed.

For those who may not have read the transmission thread guidelines, please refer to the link below.

Sorry... I assumed that he had not yet purchased the said transmission and was up for options. As in better prices and other companies. I always talk of the other companies.

Any questions feel free to ask around! If there is a company you want to know about..... well you know the rules.

I just wanted my transmission bullet proff

I can't see spending 5500 plus 1500 core charge to get my trans bullet proff without checking where to get It done at a price that I can afford. I know ATS does super work but they are out of my price range that I can afford. I am just doing my homework checking where I can get this done at a price that suits my budget. And I will find a place that I can afford and will be happy. I don't plan on using this motor home at pulling contest just pulling my car trailer with a Model T In It. Just want to be safe on the road.

Well, you can beat the shipping AND the core charge by asking them where their nearest affiliated installer is located. They have hundreds of shops across the country that can put in the Stage 1 through Stage 5 upgrades.

Also, if your trans is relatively low-mileage you can just get the Stage 1 (TripleLok T. C. ) and that will prolong the rest of your trans. Then, when you are ready to get the whole trans upgraded, you already have the TC, which won't need to be changed. I mean the danger as I understand it is that if you are loaded and on a trip and the stock TC begins to slip, the danger is that little bits of the TC will burn and flake off and plug up the rest of the trans. This is bad. But if you just put in the TripleLok TC you will stop that problem dead in it's tracks. See what I mean? Anyway, if you want to go with ATS there is a way to do it I think.

I agree with rrausch. There are ways to get around it. I purchased all the stuff for a stage iv and had my local transmission guy ( that I know very well and trust) install it. A night and day difference. The key is finding someone that knows how to properly put it together and tune it. Good luck and that sure is a sweet motorhome :D

I sure enjoy It. I have a 2004 Dodge dually and was going to get a slide In truck camper but found this Motor Home which My wife and I enjoy. I keep adding lights on It and my wife says I am a dam Redneck.

A guy just can't have too many side, clearance and running lights!!

That is, unless people start confusing your truck with the chicken-haulers! :)

Kenneth,

Find a reputable transmission shop that can check your transmission and determine it's condition. If it is in good shape, drive it.

If your total load with the motor home and car trailer exceeds rated capacity of the unit, check into replacing the torque converter and valve body.

That is a lot less money than a complete rebuild.

Install a temperatue gauge and fill it with a good synthetic fluid.

I have over 100K miles on my truck. Probably 40,000 miles of that is towing miles. Nearly all of it with the original transmission. Early on, I replaced the TC and valve body with aftermarket components and they served me well. They would probably still be in there if I hadn't scared myself into thinking it was slipping.

Spent over $5K for a new one and later found out that the noise I thought was a slipping TC was a barking turbo.

The 47RH is not garbage but if it is constantly overloaded and abused, it will give up.

Don't slam it around or overheat it and it will give you a lot of miles.

thats one of the nicest scotty's I've seen!!!

Keep it nice, and it will be worth something to a cummins nut someday... .
