Well I finally did my first valve adjust. Also replaced valve cover gaskets since all 6 were leaking now. Oh one thing about the gaskets they have been updated to a better material and they are grey now.
I chose to use the valve overlap method. What a slick way to do this job. The valves were slightly loose. One valve didn't even need adjusting at all. Truck sounds a tad smoother now.
I also pulled the prescreen bowl off for the first time. It was pretty clean for having 150,000 miles on the truck. I cleaned out the bowl and blew the screens clean. I put a new gasket on the bowl and reinstalled.
I got to thinking if I should replace all the rubber fuel hoses. Does it pay to do this? Is there certain type hose that can only be used for diesel? Aslo by chance if ya know the sizes of these lines would be helpful.

I have over 50 buses with the 5. 9 that have over 300,000 miles on them and have never had a vavle adjustment. If the vavles get out of adjustment I have found that they tighten up not loosen up. See the vavle will where in the valve will where in the valve seat and tighten up the rocker. Just my thoughts. I have been a ase certified mechanic for 15 years and I have over 230 buses in my fleet. Also I have NEVER had a dowel pin problem. Hope this helps .

Jeff,
Good idea to change out rubber fuel hose, especially if it hasn't been done.
Supply line 3/8
Return line 5/16
Several types you can choose from. Stay away from regular fuel line. Check archives for best types.
I used transmission line (rubber) seems to be working fine. Transmission line is made to withstand high temps.
