I used the new truck to pull my track hoe today (only 6 ton + trailor- towed great) to help my wifes friends husband trench in his electrical service.

I noticed he had two 7. 3's. Thinking. "We'll, at least he's smart enough to buy diesels"

After the trenching is finished he asks "How do you like the Dodge?" I say " alote". Then asks "How does the Cummins tow?" I reply "I like the low end grunt. "

Out of curtacy I asked how he likes his fords.

Now he starts telling me how the ford diesels are the greatest things since the invention of the wheel.

I didn't realize how mis-informed I was about diesels all this time.

I found out:

a) The 5. 9 Cummins is pretty much to the limit of its power capability because it's only 5. 9 liters & is only made to handle 225 hp ,whereas, the fords are tuned waaaay down.

b) ... . and if you want any more power at all out of a dodge then you need to change the intake, exhaust, and most of the drivetrain, wheras, the ford you don't need to do anything but chip it. But even if you don't chip it it allready comes with 800 lbs of torque from the factory.

c) The power stroke weighs alote more than the Cummins.

d) Dodge had to take off the air it's "Best in class" towing advertising because it was mis-leading. He claims that the "Best in class towing" was because you can order a 1500 Dodge truck with a Cummins making it an unfair comparision. (at this time he made it clear there is no way that a Cummins could compare with the Power Strokes in the 3/4 up class - but only have a chance to out tow the gassers in the 1/2 ton trucks) Yep that's why Dodge had to take their adverts off the air.

e) Last, but certainly not least, Now Ford has what is known as the FORD 6 that you can get in the 450's (he said ford doesn't offer the 1 ton anymore) which is a 6 cylinder that runs even better than the 7. 3 !!!! WOW -- WAS I EVER IMPRESSED

What could you say to all those facts. Pretty overwhelming to say the least.

So I said ,being our wives were friends and all, "It sounds like Ford makes the perfect truck for people just like you" ... ... . then loaded my 6-ton track hoe on my 3 axle trailor hoping my piuny little truck with its piuny little Cummins could get it moving down the road.

Has anyone else been exposed to this kind of knowlege?????????

Someone does'nt have a clue what they are talking about. No more f 350,cummins in a half ton I DON'T THINK SO. Tell him he should be laying down while he is dreaming like that... ... .

I am sure glad you posted that cause now I feel like an informed consumer. :D

I must make an assumption here, this Furd Boy must have been in a drug or an alcohol induced reality. These are the kind of guys I like to offer swapping loads with when I tow. Course there is always some reason why their rig can't tow what I have loaded up at the moment. :-laf

I was talking to one of my employees husbands one time and I guess he was trying to impress me with his awesome knowlege in the field of diesels (he drives a ford tempo  ). First, He kept refering to my truck as a cumminGs. Then he told me about these new platinum spark plugs that would cure my black smoke problem. The crap really hit the fan when he said the new powerstrokes were v-12 and turbochraged. I said," Jeez, thats too bad, because my puny little cumminGs is only a six banger, but guess what? It makes more HP than a dodge viper :)

Please thank your friend for all that information. He finally convinced me that everything I've ever read on this site and The Diesel Stop is absolute baloney. As soon as I finish with this post I'm going to run (not walk) to the nearest Ford dealer and trade in that piece o' junk in my driveway for a Ford.

Ford owns Cummings

If Ford would sell Cummings, then perhaps the new owners could work on the engines and get a little more power out of them, or bore and stroke 'em and put a bigger Holley on, and... and... . Oo.

DJ, what a ruse!!

DJ, you should be ashamed of yourself for setting these

Dodge boys up for such a ruse!! I'll bet you're still

laughing over these responses. I have often thought about

doing this myself but it would have to be more clever than

yours for yours is too full of holes, as you can determine,

from the lack of responses.

I do think the Ford is an all round good truck, there are too many

on the road to think otherwise. There would be more Dodges

in my part of the country if the dealers would stock them as I

had a difficult time finding one on the lot in 2003, and the only

reason I found one was due to my 2500 being involved in a swap

out with a dealer in Bufort, S. C. The Ford dealer about 200 yards

from my dealer had about 20 Powrstroke Fords on the lot at the

time but they didn't want to part with them. I was willing to order

mine without ever having driven a Dodge. I've been to several

expos or exhibits and the medium duty Ford dump truck does have a

6 cylinder but guess what, it is an ISB 5. 9L Cummins, 225 HP.

The Cummins and the powerstroke weigh about the same, approx.

950 lbs. Remember serious truckers always buy the inline 6's for

more power, maintenance, repair, longevity and the list goes on.

The Farm Expo is tuesday, wednesday, and thursday of this

up coming week, in Moultry, Ga. , you can see all of the trucks,

all makes and models, the cummins reps. will be there along

with John Deere, costs only $5. 00 per person. You can't

see it all in one day.

Try harder next time DJ.

I hope you plan on sending him a bill that reflects his knowledge.

That's what makes the story funny - is the holes.

I'm fishing for more stories out there that are full holes - ie. What people say in general about Dodges & others as if it's gospel - but say it with such conviction as to not question them but want to just play along with them.

Speaking of stories - you say there was a ford dealer with 20 in stock that they were not willing to part with... ... ... ... . I think what they said was "They needed them FOR PARTS" :)

No bill involved though I hear what your saying. The entertainment value was there and now it just keeps on giving. I love this sight because I can tell these experiences to people that can enjoy them as much as I!

The only thing worse than having a truck when people need one - is haveing a piece of equiptment to go along with it.

I currently own 6 trucks... ... 93 F350, 95 F250, 00 F550, 01 3500, 04 3500, 05 3500,

All except the F250 are DRW... . Before the Fords I had 2 dodges... Sold them both at over 475K miles, both were 1 ton DRW that had extended chassis...

I bought the Fords because they had 100 HP more... but the upkeep has been terrible... Each truck has had a couple sets of injectors... 2 or 3 sets of wiring going to the valve covers... High pressure oil pump problems, low pressure oil pump problems... The F550 has 275K miles and at least 2 times a year it sticks the driver out of town with a cam senor failure... he carries one in the glove box... and the tools to change it... .

My 01 3500 now has close to 200K and my 04 3500 has close to 90K and neither of these trucks has been touched since they have been delivered other than tires and LOF... . However the 04 has a stumble just off of idle and I'm going to have it looked at...

These are all work trucks... I just hope that the latest 04 and 05 don't give me problems. . were trading off the 2 more as soon as the 4500 and 5500 head to the showrooms... I'm going to upgrade to 5500's... .

Dumb and Stupid

Your friend shows us the difference between a dumb person and stupid person. A stupid person don't know that they're dumb.

jelag,

Interesting your 04 has close to 90K already. What kind of duty do your trucks see- by that I mean towing/hauling- weights involved any mountain or off road use and what kind of trans in all your trucks?

Oldies but Goodies:

1. "you can't change the exhaust, you need backpressure... "--GM

2. "Those injectors never go bad... "--GM

3. "Clutches only last 60-90K MAX" I was told this when my '01 had 140k on original clutch. :-{} Maybe true for Furds...

Those all came from the other guys' service managers.
