I did some welding under the hood today (I know, bad ground placement- on the manifold near the line), and the ground lead wore/ burned a pinhole in the oil supply line. Fortunately, I was 3 mi from home when I noticed it, and limped it home before any grave damage was done. I swiped the one off Mom's Pickup, and hers has no line now. I am going to go to Cummins tomorrow, but if any of you have one lying around I could have for less than the $30 Cummins wants, I'd take it off your hands. If not, it's no big deal, but I figured I'd save every dollar I can, as I plan on moving back out west in the next month, maybe. Hopefully. ;) :D PM or email me: -- email address removed -- I'll check email before I leave in the AM.

Thanks,

Daniel

I checked Case, and they couldnt (read- WOULDnt) make it. Something about an inverted flare, and of course the swapeast MO aversion to ANYTHING metric; it's as if they are being asked to service the Japanese or Germans in person  ). I think they are fulluvit, they dont want to do it for an automotive app, esp since it aint for a 350/454. (I get SOOO fricking tired of the redneck anti diesel attitude around here). Called CUmmins, said they had it. When I got there (60mi) they said they didnt. I ordered it from Freightliner. I may go see about getting it done at Napa or some other place here in town. I was just tired of driving around in the car (better MPGs, not near as fun though), and was getting tired and irritable from not eating breakfast.....

THanks. CB, I HAD considered duct tape, but decided against it after remembering the pressure it'd have to hold.

I did that once on my boat ... with the old Perkins diesel. Turbo feed hose that ran along side of the engine had chafed thru... I could see the oil P gage "pulsating" . . that's what tipped me off there was a problem.

Taped the hose, slowed the leak, but didn't stop it. Didn't have enough oil on board to make it back home...

It was a nice day so I called the "towboat"... I had insurance so it didn't cost anything.

Was able to hold enough pressure to back into my slip at the marina... . didn't want the towboat guy to do it...

Cleaning up the mess in the bilge was lots of fun.

I screwed up the threads on the exact same hose when I removed and remounted the turbo on my '93 engine prior to installation in my coach (had to go with a different exhaust manifold due to clearance concerns. There's a big huge Parker Fittings store about 10 minutes away from where I live. I figured that that would be THE place to go get something like that made up, right? WRONG! All the wimpy nerd behind the counter could do was stand there and squak "temperature and pressure?" over and over again like a god dam parrot. I was like "I don't (insert Blessed Lady of Acceleration language here) know!" Then the whiny little milquetoast starts a big shpiel about how the nature of thier buisiness is industrial-oriented, not automotive stuff. I thought to myself "Fine! If you don't want my dead presidents any more than that, I'll just take them elsewhere!" Went to an auto parts store that makes up Dayco Hydraulic hoses and got one done for about 17 bux. It's rated for 4000 psi and I figure it will outlast even the engine! :D

Don,

Now you know how I feel when I try to buy anything for a Super B in a Dodge. Parts stores dont get enough business to stock anything; Cummins doesnt want to mess with the little pickups; same with Freightliner; Case doesnt want anything to do with me because it's for automotive, not ag/ industrial. Got informed by the guy at Case that they dont have Cummins engines in their tractors- it's a joint venture between Cummins and (I think) CDC. They use some (all  ) of the same internals, but externals are different. "Like what?" "well, the air filters wont fit, and the fuel filters are different. " Hmmm... . airfilters are pretty much application specific; fuel filters can be changed at random as long as the threads on the adaptors will screw on. Question for the Case guy- If, indeed, there arent any Cummins engines in your tractors, then why does the engine on my landlord's 9350 have a big blue "C" on the intake/ aftercooler? It happens to be a NTC- whatever the power rating. Exact same engine in the Ford 4wd tractors.

I got a line from Freightliner the other day. Freight was $8, which was no real surprise. See what I can tear up next- new calipers and front brakes tomorrow, then on to fix Mom's pickup.
