I-POD Interface with REC Nav 7 speaker infinty

Does anyone know which IPOD interface works the best? Dodge sells two types, part numbers 82209617AD and 82210181ab. It appears the first one allows you to control from the radio and the second on controls from the ipod wheel. First one is a direct wire and the second one is a FM modulator.

Any feedback that could help me make the right choice would be appreciated.

I purchased a small unit that plugs into the bottom of the I-Pod and it transmits on a FM channel you select... it also has a power cord to keep the I-Pod charged... . under $40 on Amazon and I move it from vehicle to vehicle... I mostly listen to books and not music... . I'm very pleased... . Griffin might be the brand name... My son has one and he suggested it to me... .

I'm not sure the Chrysler way is the best way. There's several different approaches.
1. Use the audio output from the iPod (either the headphone plug or the line out in the dock connector) and use a car deck with an audio input (best) or a cassette adapter (good) or an FM transmitter (ok). In this case the control remains with the iPod. Ideally you'd still like to power the iPod. Newer iPods require a 5VDC adaptor and older iPods use 12V or 5V.

2. Use an integrated solution that uses the dock connector for audio and control and transfers control to the radio. Power is provided through the dock connector. The problem is the display on the radio. If it's a simple display (4 digits or 8 characters) then scrolling through playlists, artists, and songs becomes a pain. (I have an Alpine unit with a colour LCD display so navigation is great. )

3. Use a radio with a USB interface. The newest generation treat the iPod as a disk drive and read the data (e. g. playlists) and files (songs) directly.

Most Chrysler radios are expandable -- there's a big connector on the back to add devices like CD changers and satellite radio. If the radio has a SOURCE button then it supports expansion. Get the radio model number (it's on the build sheet) and check out Crutchfield: LCD TV, Car Stereo, Home Theater, Speakers, Digital Cameras to look at iPod integration options.

The 82209617AD is not available anymore... I did some searching that commented the satelite radio did not perform well and problems with VES so they discontinued it.

The one I puchased is a FM modulator from Mopar ONLY ONE THEY SALE and you are suppose to be able to see the selected tune on your radio display it was around $100. 00 and it looks like it will require radio removal etc. I will let you know how it works once I have installed it. I have the REC with NAV 7 speaker setup.

The one that I'm using is from ISIMPLE, it plugs into the bottom of the ipod. You have to provide a power source and you need to pull the deck out and it plugs into the antana port and them the factory antana plugs into it. It is flawless for the past year and the sound if perfect with no interferance that you get from one that transmits fm signals and the factory antana picks it up. I never turn the switch off unless I want to use the FM radio which is almost never.

I hate FM modulators, especially if you drive through areas where radio stations change.

I got the one from the dealer, controlled thru my radio, it was a bit pricey, but I tried the FM modulator, was always having to find new frequencies as I drove, hated it. I would make the same purchase again, system works well, the menuing system responsiveness is a little slow, other than that, I have no complaints.

i want to thank you guys for this thread. since i got my ipod i was wondering how to get it to work with the old style radio/cassette. didn't want to change out everything. since i use sirius and had already got the tape cassette adapter i just plugged it in and bingo. don't know why i didn't think of it. thanks again. Oo.
