Question on different Cummins?

After talking to tooooooooo many wheel people most of the honest people told me to get forged and forget cast, 2 piece or even billet with the 315 or larger tires because of the extra load. I have the Weld Evo Vel 8's forged 18x9. 5x6. 12 BS(backspace) with the nitto terra grappler(325/65/18).

I would not recommend this set up for off roading, they rub on the trailing arms less than the 315/oem forged wheels but rub OOO so little on the front spoiler and the Xenon flairs just a tad...

My truck will never see offroading.

Still have a little cutting to do when the weather warms up... . One problem I do have now is a shimmy and do to not having hub centric installed yet but are on there way.

My truck is not lifted but actually lowered in the back to get in the garage... .

check my gallery

hope some of this helps

I have talked to Alba, Boyds, Colorado, Budnik, Billet, Weld and many more.

So with a 2" lift on my truck i should have no problems with rubbing with the ea seeries 114 (+22 mm 6" bsm) I am also have fender flares. I dont mind them sticking out 1 or 2 inches. Id say 2 inches at MAX is what i can tolerate. .

Nick,

What size tire are you going to run?

325/65R18 Nitto's are 34. 88" tall, 12. 99" wide on a 9. 5" wheel.

325/60R18 Nitto's are 32. 99" tall, 12. 83" wide on a 9. 5" wheel.

Toyo also makes the same size tires.

Toyo Open Country

Nitto Terra Grappler

I think you'll have an easier time with the 33" tires for sure.

Member JRG runs the 33" version on his truck. I believe he has a 2" lift on the front of his truck.

JRG's Reader's rigs page.

I think you'd need a 4" lift to run the 35" tires. I'm saving for the Kelderman setup. About 3700 beans for the whole shebang, but I could ride in Air Ride Comfort! I've been working on the wife for about 2 months now about it. She's gotten away from the "perfectly good truck" saying, so I just may convince her yet!

Id like to run a 325/60R18 tire. I dont like how my performance has got down with the 315's. Id like something with an aggresive tread.

Did anyone watck TRUCKS! on spike tv this weekend? Id like to know what tires where on the powerstroke

P. S. I dont tow at all so i dont care about the weight ratings... as long as it will hold up to my 7100 lb truck. .

I wish they made them in 17" sizes so I could put a set of Parnelli Jones load range E tires on them.

Those are good numbers and price too! Nitto has the 325/60-18 that is 33" and rated to 3000 lbs. Not sure if that tire is a D or E.

I did see at one time they had listed the load ranges as I was looking at a 20" E range tire in a 33" size but after they changed/updated their site the load ranges are no longer listed.

What PJ tires were you looking at that were E's?

Matt,

Almost all of Parnelli Jones tires are load range E.

Here's a link

Parnelli Jones

They don't have any 18" sizes though, and I don't know of any 17" wheels near the proper offset.

So we have load range E tires but not the proper wheels to fit them, and the proper offset wheels, but no load range E tires to fit them.

Kinda stinks. So far the tire that I like is the Nitto Terra Grappler LT305/55 R20 its 33. 07" and E rated at 3195 lbs.

Now all I need is an Eagle Series 114 in a 20x9 with 6" back space if their gonna rate them to 3450 lbs.

I will keep my fingers crossed while I wear out the 285 Toyo's

AE series 114

Matt,

They make the 114 in 20x10".

Gary C is running an 18x9. 5x6" backspace wheel with the 33's.

I would think that with the reduced backspacing of 4 5/8" of the 20" wheel, it would not rub the control arms, but because of the -21" offset, it would stick out pretty far. I actually like the look of the tires sticking out about 2" or so.

I think the TDR should purchase a CNC machine and make wheels for the members at cost. I'll chip in $10 for the cost of the machine!

i Have plenty of cnc machines. Someone make up a blueprint and send it to my uncle and he will quote it an we will see what can happen.

aewheel has respectable prices, a better idea might be for TDR and its members to spec out a few different sizes and have aewheel build a wheel that is not only specific to our trucks but only available to TDR members by being sold here and not anywhere else.

I would like to have a unique exclusive wheel that further differentiates us with the rest.

It could even have a unique CTD logo on the caps Oo.

The 114's in the 20" size would poke out too much for me. When its time for new tires I may have to go with 18's. The Terra Grappler has a high enough load rating in the 18 but not sure if their 33" 18 is E rated.

hrmm, well the people over a Nitto confirmed that the 305/55R20 Terra Grappler is the only E rated one. They are 33. 07"

It will fit on a 9" wide wheel so all I need is a 20x9 with 6" BS to limit it to just an inch more sticking out.

Has anyone found an E rated quiet A/T 33" tire in 17, 18 or 20"???

The Parnelli Jones looks like a cross between Mud and All terrain tread. The website says "the tread design provides a smooth ride and lower noise. " I would be willing to accept a little more noise over stock, but I'm not willing to accept the noise of a mud terrain.

I e-mailed Toyo a while back about load range E tires and if they had any plans to make them. Here was their response:

"We are currently making 18 inch sizes in D and E load ranges. We also make

some 17 inch sizes in D load ranges. However we have not yet made any large

sizes in 17 inch yet. "

Their tech spec page for the Open Country AT on their

website doesn't list the load range on many tires. There are a few though.

Toyo Mud Terrain

I was just surfing on the Toyo website and happened to take a look at the Open country Mud Terrain. For the longest time, they had only one size. There are more now, including a 35/12. 50R18 with a 3415lb load rating.

This is one sweet looking tire. I bet it screams though.

I tried those tires on my truck about a week ago,they were mounted on some Ultra type #64 in 17x9. Let me tell ya,that is one sweet lookin' set up,but i had serious rubbing issues! I run a 2" level in front,so i thought i might get lucky,but :{ :{ :{

Spooled-up, actually there are 18x9. 5x6. 12 with the 325/65/18 Nitto's Terra Grappler which are 34. 8 tall,,,

They rub on the xenon flairs slightly and less on the arms than the 315/70/17 BGF AT's on the OE Alloy wheels on the 2500 4x4, so wider wheel helps with the rubbing(arms)... .

And We put in the Hub centric rings today and the shimmy is all gone, with these huge tires hub centric is a must.

Gary,

Sorry for the incorrect info. How do the Nitto's ride? Are there any vibration issues or excessive noise? I'm seriously considering this tire with a 4" lift.

Fencebuilders,

What size did you try on your truck? Were they the 35"?

Do you think they would have cleared with a 4" lift? Did anyone at the tire dealer mention how loud they were from previous customers?

How much did they want for them?

They ride great way better than the BFG AT's, the rings cancelled the shimmy, road noise maybe slight louder than the At's,,,

Mine where 245 a piece

no problem on the info

later

I don't think the PJ tire would work as well in the snow and wet pavement in our area. Snow off road yes but hard pack on the highway I have found lots of sipping works better. Its a good looking tire but doubt it would be quiet enough for my taste.

I have the Toyo Open Country now in a 285/70R17 and really like it so far. At 15K wear looks good and winter traction was excellent along with very low road noise. The only thing that bothers me is the 2700 lb load rating. I see its not listed yet on there site but I have em.

Thats good news about the 18" E rated Toyo's cuz I would buy again but want the safety factor especially for the heavier CTD.

I just wish the cool looking tires ran quiet. Those M/T's do look good.

The Open Country tire they show does not do it justice, here is a pic of the Toyo's I have:

#ad

I just found out from Toyo that the above Open Country is now available in a 305/55R20. Its a high D rated tire with a load index of 121 and 3195 lbs. They claim its the only 33" tire they have with that load rating.
