Just more info here... .

I have a 01 and I have had the door panel off on mine, I have the non power flip up and I Have the wire for the mirrors going to the door. It looks like If they do fit for the new flip-up, then they might just plug in and hook up for the control. If they did do this, I will want a set. It is 10 degrees here in SLC and overnight in the mountains we had -40:eek: and one place had -62!!Deg. That my freind is cold:eek: So my mirrors get fogged up and frozen. Was considering using that rainex anti fog.

Hey yogi, how much was the powered flip up?

Will subscibe to this thread to keep up

Eric

I'm :{ too!... But only because the price on those babies is :--) !!

Some of the people have been getting the nice stock flip-ups for around 200 bucks a set. And they're factory.

I liked them until I got to the line on the text that said "due to the size of the mirrors, both mirrors have flat glass. " Nope. Not for me. I like the right side convex mirror, myself. I find having to look at a small stick-on convex mirror to be annoying and (IMO) unsafe. This is one reason why I did not go with the Powervision mirrors. I guess I'll stick to my '98's.

Did you guys see the new electric/heated CIPA expandable mirrors Geno's is carrying? The Edge Products ad on page 73 of the new TDR issue has a picture of what looks like to be these mirrors on a Red Sport 3500. Looks pretty sharp:)

OOPS, just realized these are the same mirrors mentioned by Lil' Dog.

Still waiting.....

Just reassuring all of you who are patiently (or not so patiently) waiting on my report that I'm still waiting for DC to get these bricken-bracken things to Hanna so's I can get them done.

They say good things come in time but who are they anyway? :D

Guess what showed up?

Finally the DR power heated mirrors trickled their way into the dealer-I have them sitting on the kitchen floor now! Set one of them beside the takeoff BR ones I also purchased-from the mounting foot pivot out they are IDENTICAL! So barring a discrepancy in the actual mirror connector this swap'll be a done deal. Hoping to get done work in enough time today to make the actual foot swap-probably won't have time enough to swap the mirrors onto the truck but if I'm real adventurous and there's not much going on during the day at work I may peel back the door panel and pull one quick to have a look at the connector. .

More info as it comes in... ...

One Step Closer to the Edge (and I'm about to break... )!

So far not quite as easy as I had expected-should have known I'd hit a few snags along the way. The mirror arms pivot on the mounting feet on a shaft that looks to be around 1" in diameter. There's a huge coil spring that compresses the arm onto the foot in order to make the breakaway detents hold. This spring is held in place by a giant pushnut. Pulling this nut is not a bunch of fun-broke a whole pile of tools but so far I've managed to get 1 BR and 1 DR apart. Still working on the reassembly part :D .....

There's a difference between the 2 also in the tabs that keep the mirror from breaking away too far and tagging the fender. Looks like the arms are gonna require a little clearance grinding to make things work-still doable-just a little more of a pain in the butt. I'm gonna make it work though-too much $$$ invested to wimp out now!

I'm thinking of attacking it a different way here with the 2 complete ones-but until I prove or disprove my new method I'm not gonna reveal any more details. No worries-whatever way I figure out to make it work will be revealed on here with some of my famous crappy photographs to confuse everyone further.

Would an expensive machined filler between the new mirrors and the sheet metal work? They could be machined or made out of plasic.

I don't think they'd look all that great Ken-the DR mirrors are quite a bit bigger in the mounting foot than the BR ones. No biggie-I'm gonna get this worked out here by the start of next week hopefully-I have a surprise 30th birthday party for a buddy tonight and a wedding dance for another friend tomorrow night so Sunday will be spent holding my guts, moaning and wishing for God to take me with watching the Daytona 500 intermixed in there somewhere as well :D

Go 8 Go!

Crappy weekend all around... ... not only did Junior not win Daytona (although it was cool to see Ward win), I managed to pick up the cold of the century from my Friday night of binge-drinking... ..... sometimes you just can't win for losing! :D

Progress is being made slowly-this job is not anywheres near as fun as I first anticipated it to be. Hopefully this afternoon I will get at least 1 side assembled-with luck both of them! Then I'll have to see if the connectors are the same-I doubt it looking at the service manual but I have been wrong before-once back in 1994 I think... ... ;)

I am approaching it in 2 different ways. My 1st thought was to just exchange the mounting foot. Unfortunately the engineers at DC made a few minor changes to the breakaway limiter tabs that will require a little bit of grinding. Nothing major-just an irritant. The 2nd thought was to swap the head assembly on to the older truck arm. This is a little more of a pain in the butt as running the wiring up through the arm proved to be considerably more difficult than first anticipated  !

The driver's side one is just waiting for me to muscle up enough strength to force the pushnut back onto the pivot (you have to compress a mondo coil spring in the process)-the passenger's is awaiting the aforementioned grinding and reassembly-and its spring is heavier yet :( . Then I still have the connector issue to address... ...

So it's not turning out as easy as I had thought-but still is doable (easy for me to say when I'm not done yet isn't it)? :D More progress updates as they become available... ...

More updates from the trenches......

The grinding idea didn't work nearly as well as planned-I ground until I was silver :D and still couldn't get them to fit together. So I'll be utilizing the head-swap plan on the passenger-side one as well-maybe tonight..... I did get the driver's side one completely assembled-it looks completely factory and works like it should-except with a few more features! Still not sure about the connectors-I'll find out the hard way when I go to make the swap. I briefly entertained the thought last night of throwing the drivers side one on-but then thought better of it ;) .

Start sending e-mails (or cards and letters) folks to the fine people at Mopar parts begging, cajoling or even whining at them to crank these out tout suite! Trust me, it'll save you a whole ton of time and maybe keep a few new words out of your vocabulary :D. I'll still have the straight scoop for ya on how to do it yourself regardless though!
