Can anyone explain to me how to adjust the idle on my 96 cummins. I moved my #6 plate forward and my idle went to 1000-1100 rpm at idle. Can anyone explain this to me? It is hard to understand this since I am not yet fimilar with this pump.

It helps a lot if you cram a screwdriver in the throttle linkage at the TPS end so that the linkage isn't pressing against the adjustment screw. Then you should be able to turn the screw with your fingers after the lock nut is loose. On the 12V engine the end of the throttle lever presses against the adjustment screw. While you are at it, make sure that the screws that attach the linkage lever to the pump lever are tight. They take an 8mm wrench.

Good point, Joe. No wonder my fingers were always so sore after adjusting my 98. It was from trying to hold that thing and get it adjusted at the same time.
 
Yeah, on the back side of the pump you will find the plate that rotates when the throttle cable moves. If I remember it is a 10mm nut holding the screw that adjusts the idle. Loosen the nut and adjust to your liking. Don't move it alot. A little turn goes a long way. Don't forget to tighten the nut when you are through. To find the plate, move the throttle linkage while looking at the back of the pump with a flashlight. You'll see what I'm talking about.
