Anyone ever had problems with your idler pulleys?

I got some belt squeal and I suspect it's one of the idler pulleys.

Hrm. Wonder if they have removable bearings in them that I can replace at my local bearing shop. Had another vehicle that was built like that, so I didn't have to buy the whole pulley.

Thankx!!!

Dayco makes the replacement pulley, mine cost around $18. 00 I will try to find the part number tomarrow when I get to the shop. Mine was worn on the pulley throwing the belt off center.

Hrm... Mine looks cast iron.

It's not the tensioner pulley but the idler pulley... .

don't have my digital camera handy :(

Idler pully

Taz:

Are you sure you ain't looking at the water pump?

If you hear a chirpping when the engin is running it is most likely the tensioner pully. I built my own out of cast iron, because i didn't want to buy the whole tensioner.

Stick;)

Yeah I see the tenioner pulley now, and I feel the surface of it is worn.

Supergas, I would love to have that part number. I'll get by with a replacement and order that better one the end of this week.

Thankx!

I needed to replace mine a few months ago and the way I described the problem the Dodge parts and mech. , they said that it was the tensioner also that was going south! Total cost for the setup was $148... It took longer to go get the part then it did to install it. .

Tensioner Pulley

Practical Solutions' cast iron pulley is much less than the Dodge part and the bearings are replacable should they go bad sometime in the future. Definately a worthwhile purchase.

The Practical Solutions HD Idler Pully is well worth every penny, IMO.

Great people to deal with also. I had my pully in 2 days.

Dayco Part Number 89005. The ticket that was with mine was $18. 50. I got it from the local parts store. I have fixed a couple of trucks with this. Both had the belt running off center and rubbing on the tensioner. Worth a try. Trey
