Thanks for everyones input in this matter. I guess he's decided to buy a 5. 9 07 ,I had him read all your responses.

Thanks again

Well, I have a 6. 7 which runs Hot Shot / Courier service, in all weather, currently we are enjoying a few days of warm weather -5 degrees C.
It typically runs a -20 degrees C this time of year. my milage is an average 18 MPG (hand calculated) since the day I bought it June 02, 2007. I now have 70,000 Km or 42,700 Miles. Never missed a day of work thanks to my dealer being proactive with the software and hardware.
No complaints, great truck, very stable in all conditions, sun, rain, snow or ice, Hot or Cold. Always on call, Always starts, Always runs!

Tow heavy and these trucks are flawless.

What MOates said hit the nail on the head, both about D/C and the CRD. (We love our little CRD, but most of the mods MOates mentioned are just plain necessary for the CRD. Ours is running good, so I don't have to be in any hurry to get them done, but they will get done. )

I'm surprised no one had really talked about the EPA's roll in all this. The EPA IS the reason for all the changes to the new diesels and why nobody wants them. Cummins, Navistar, Cat, Detriot, all of them had to do all this crazy stuff for emmissions. Common rail, retarded timing, DPF, CCV, EGR is all because of gov. All the manufactors have done the best they can to meet the requirements. But no matter how well these new engines are engineered and built, there is just more to go wrong. Plus with exhaust gases, soot, crankcase gases, etc, going thru the engine, they can't possible perform as well or as long as an older, simplier engines of similiar displacement/duty cycle. I think the newer 6. 7 is a very good engine given the requirerments it had to be built to. The truck and transmission seem to be getting better with time, but I'd take an older, simpler diesel any day over the newer ones. I wasn't going to look at getting a new truck in about '08, but when I saw all the emmisions stuff on the newer ones, I got an '06. Glad I did.
