Where to find 2nd Gen Tow Ratings

fifth wheel hitch height

I lost 2 tires to complete failure and 4 others were on the way with bulges under the tread. I was careful about proper inflation, checked before each trip. The tires were certainly not overloaded with a 5500 lb max trailer weight and each of 4 tires rated at 2400+. So, overloading and underinflation can and do cause problems, but some failures aren't so clear to diagnose.

We lost one on our car trailer on the way home from Carlisle, with my dad's roadrunner on board, definitely a few tense moments!

Hey Utah, I had the same problem with my Firestone R4S's. Firestone ended up replacing all of them for me for no charge. They were "E" rated, 16 inchers on my

Alfa fifth wheel. Have since switched to "G" rated Goodyears. So far, so good. .

Y'all know how to read the date of manufacture on the tires? Following the set of

letter/numbers beginning with "DOT..... , the last four number in the sequence will be the week and year that the tire was made, e. g. , 2403 would be the 24th week of 2003. This number sequence is usually posted on the inside, or "dirty side" of the tire by the installer to make it a little more difficult to spot.
