I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I FOUND THIS SITE ABOUT 3 DAYS AGO AND AS YOU CAN TELL I DIDNT WASTE ANY TIME TO GET A MEMBERSHIP. I HAVE A 93 250 EXT CAB 4X4 5SDP, AFTER VIEWING EVERY THING UNDER THE 1ST GEN. CATAGORIES, I ORDERED NEW INJECTORS, BOOST AND PYRO GAUGE. I HOPE TO HAVE THEM BY THIS WEEKEND AND GET THEM INSTALLED. AFTER I DO YOU WILL BE SURE I WILL BE ASKIN MORE QUESTIONS ON HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF MY RIG. :D

Welcome to the site!:)

Yep, there is lots of information here as well as people willing to help the others. I've been here 3 years or so and have learned more about our trucks than I would ever have imagined. Ask away on the questions and you will get answers. Do a search in the first gen forum and you will get lots of info from that as well. Most items have been discussed in the past. Some of the guys are really getting some serious power from our old first gens and someone is always looking for a better way to" build a mouse trap"!

You will be amazed when you do the injectors. Which ones did you get? You will need to do something on the air inlet side as well as exhaust to pick up more power as well as do some pump timing and tweaking.

HAVE A BALL!!

FIRST THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY PACCOOL. THE INJECTORS I BOUGHT WERE BOSCH, THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO GIVE ME ABOUT 40 MORE HP AND 100 LBS OF TORQUE. I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED A 16CM TURBO HOUSING FROM TST, AND ALSO BOUGHT A K&N AIRFILTER. AS FOR YOU SUGGESTING I DO SOMETHING FOR THE EXHAUST, WELL MY TRUCK IS STRAIGHT PIPED AND IT STOPS RIGHT BEHIND THE CAB WITH A TURN DOWN ON THE END OF IT. ITS NOISEY TO ALL OF THESE CITYFIED FOLKS OUT HERE IN CALIFORNIA, BUT IM A COUNTRY BOY FROM NEW MEXICO AND ITS MUSIC TO MY EARS :D . I LOVE THE SOUND OF A WHINING TURBO SPOOL UP ;) .

All I can say is WELCOME!! You won't ever find a better group of people, everbody will go out of there way to help in any way they can!!

Hell, you have already done most of the stuff! You will like the injectors. It sounds like you may have gotten the "Power Wagon" injectors.

You still need to time the pump and tweak it a little.

The injectors are easy to change. The #6 can be a little tough to get out sometimes due to corrosion on the injector body. You can make a small slide puller by getting a metric nut that fits the threads on the top of the injector. Get a 6" or so long bolt that fits the bolt, slide a large socket on it and then thread the bolt into the nut on the top of the injector. will only take a couple of small "taps" with the socket to get the injectors out.

You can get them out without taking the fuel lines loose from the pump. You will need to pull the valve covers off of 2 and 5 to make a little room. Be careful and don't kink or bend the lines.

Clean the injector bores good. Cummings makes a special brush for this but I used a shotgun cleaning brush. Don't remember the gauge, but it seems like 16 gauge. Check the size bore and you can figure it out.

Reconnect the lines and try to start it up. Will run rough for a minute or so then level out. Some guys have to bleed the lines but the couple of times I did it, the truck started right up after a few revs with the starter.

Hope this helps

PACCOOL

OK THAT SOUNDS PRETTY SIMPLE, I GUESS I WILL FIND OUT SHORTLY,LOL. ABOUT THE PUMP TIMING I LOOKED AT MINE AND IT HAS A MARK ON THE PUMP AND ON THE GEAR HOUSING. THEY ARE LINED UP PERFECTLY. SO IN ORDER FOR ME TO ADVANCE THE TIMING I JUST MOVE THE PUMP MARK ABOVE THE OTHER ONE ABOUT AN 1/8 OF AN INCH RIGHT? I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE BEFORE I GO MOVING IT AROUND.

Welcome aboard. You are well on you way.

A couple of heads up.

Be very careful with the fuel lines, do not bend them too much and make sure that they are perfectly aligned with the new injectors, or else the engine may feel like it is missing or running rough.

Also, when you work on the fuel lines when the engine is running, don't forget these are high pressure fuel lines.

Raising the pump about 1/8" is what most are doing as a rough advance. I took mine to a diesel shop and had them check the TDC pin location. The pin was off from top dead center by 2. 5 degrees. They corrected that then set the pump timing at 1. 7. This took my pump mark about 3/8" above the mark on the motor.

1/8" timing

I have read where fellas have practically removed all lines etc from the pump to reset timing. I have found another way. Thats what I get paid for. Here's the method to my madness.

SP144-loosen the three nuts.

10mmbox end-loosen rear support cap screw.

Large adj. pliers-[here's where the wife helps out] have her position said tool on top bracket of pump where tps is,or there abouts, and span the distance over to top of cylinder head where a small cap screw holds intake cover in position. Now have her squeeze the handles of pliers together while you watch the marks separate. Takes no time at all.

When you turn up the pump your slow idle will increase. To slow her down some I have found simple Craftsman tool that works very well without making anything special and w/out removal of several pump components. I posted it a short time back but don't recall the thread it's on. If you need help, just ask.

It's nice to have another 1st genner among us,and welcome!!

Well JEB,

Welcome to the asyumn... were the inmates run things :D:D

I have some "stickies" at the top of the forum that contain alot of good stuff, so you won't have to hunt too far for the common things... check that out too.

My pictures in "readers rigs" has diagrams, photo's, etc of our pumps, and lots of other things so look at those... . along with the other readers rigs galleries, they contain a lot of great stuff.

BTW it is generally accepted that using capitals is a form of internet "shouting", so save the caps' for something skecial... normal small type being the accepted method for most posts.

The ONLY dumb question, is the one you don't ask. . so don't be afraid to jump in and have at it... .

Welcome to your new home...

Welcome to the land of Oz where we continue to search for the 400hp 1st Gen. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction with your mods. With a few more tweaks and adjustments you can see 250hp with those PW injectors. :D :D
