Klenger is right on on both items 1) and 2). I just finished aircraft mechanics school, and the toolroom at the school had Snap-On torque wrenches, including a brand new in-lb 1/4" drive wrench. I will DEFINITELY buy one someday!
If you need a torque wrench for dialing in bearing pre-load (Turning torque) then Beam type is the way to go. Beam torque wrenches are the least accurate bur easiest to read in this application.
we just got some new armstrong torque wrenches at work. i like them alot. there is no plastic on it other than the button that covers the adjusting nut at the bottom of the handle, and the scale on it is real easy to read [and the handle is a cool anedized [sp?] light blue color]
You asked for good, not cheap. Just kidding. Snap On tools are not in the budget for most of us that use our tools on a recreational basis. You might also check at Sears; at least they are convenient, and usually stand behind their tools pretty well. Also, check out ebay.
