Within the first 2,000 miles, my truck had a drivetrain thunk when stopping and starting. You could feel it in the seat and it was very noticeable. It took three tries with a needle-equipped grease gun on the front and rear driveshaft spline boots, but the problem is now gone at 4,000 miles. Also, around 2,000 miles, the truck developed a loud thump in the front suspension during low-speed full-lock left turns, as during parking. This time, it took two tries with a grease gun on the upper ball joint grease fittings, and that problem has also been resolved. I really wonder if my truck is the exception, or is DC saving 25 cents per truck by cutting back on factory grease. I just hope no permanent damage was done before I found the causes of my problems!

grease

mine appeared to come without grease at all. found that out at first oil change. All 3 ( thats terrible) zerks were rusted shut, but now they are good and greased and stay that way.

Ditto on the 3 chassis zerks. Looked under the truck when I got it home from the stealer, noticed the gease seals did not look fat at all, got the grease gun and it took 7-10 pumps before they fattened up and spit some grease.

I used a sharpend

basketball needle and injected all my fittings with grease until they fattend up. I just put a smear of silcone over the hole which really closes itself. The boots looked empty when new.

And I thought I was the only one. I guess I better drill and tap the lower ball joints and what ever else I can to make up for D/C's inadequacies. Oh well so the bombing continues albeit not on the things I want to bomb.

This morning, I did the same as some above, and used a grease needle to pierce the boots and grease all the joints on my '02 - all the boots were well collapsed, and absolutely NO signs of any lube leakage, so doubt there was much in there from the factory...

I had noticed on the first grease job on the 2 lone points in my steering that DID have fittings, that when I tried to physically move and twist the other steering shafts, they were too stiff to move - I assumed it was the newness of the truck - but they were STILL quite stiff this morning BEFORE I greased them, and once greased, became FAR easier to move...

I have NO doubt that providing a method to periocically apply grease is a GOOD thing to do! ;) :D
