Break down 06 on freeway!

I have seen the Ball seat & Check ball deformed to the point that the injector was no more than a fire hose to the combustion chamber. Or if in your case the seat area gets damage it will pop O-Ring above the Armature assembly or Body O-ring.

The "O" ring below the hold down seals low pressure fuel that is being returned to the fuel tank from the connector tubes and the injector bypass. It is much more likely you have a cracked injector body. Sorry for the late reply, been gone for a few days.

I am sure thats what it was. I pulled the leaking injector, checked it all and didn't see anything wrong so re seated it all and it still leaked.

Replacement injector and tube fixed it. Is is common to re use the tubes on injector replacement? I found very tiny pitting on the tip so changed it to be sure of no leaks there either.

A quick question....

First off, this is a very helpful thread and thank you very much! I was really paying attention to how i took it apart but, i noticed when putting it all back together that that bridge part that connects the push down of the valves has a dot on one end. I flipped it over and it looks like that one end has a different hole on the bottom. Can someone tell me where the end with a dot on it goes please?

thanks Robert

Dont sweat it Robert, When I did my cam my truck had them all different ways which concerned me and the only data I could find on the subject was this document that mentions all dots should be on the left side (exhaust manifold side) as you look at the engine from the front.

Someone at Cummins designed one end different than the other which makes you think it has a direction but maybe not.

As long as the connector tube is not pitted, damaged on the end, or has rust or debris inside they can be used again. Especially when all you had was a cracked body. If you have a bad (plugged, dirty, contaminated) injector you should always replace the tube.

Awesome, great thread.
I'm in the middle of removing my injectors and sending them to Industrial Injection, and this thread gave me the confidence to start it .
It's taking me a while, but it's an enjoyable learning process.
Sag2-maybe you could put up some icon for paypal for donations. I'd be happy (and I'm sure others would be too) to send a dollar to offset the time and care you put into the post. Ditto for that person who asked for the cam change procedure with the same care and level of detail as the injector change post!

Nice thought, but I have fun helping out the other members, and seeing my information help is payment enough. Instead of donating to me, keep spreading the word to other truck owners so we can continue to support the TDR and sponsors so we can have a place to share information that helps us all.

I know this should be easy to do, but I never have adjusted valves. I changed the injectors in my 2000 a couple of times but the adjusting of the valves had made me hesitant not to do my 2006. I know I need a feeler gauge. Any other tips??

I really liked reading this post, one Q I had especially in regards to using a TQ wrench, if gaining access is such a pain Is there a reason that a Crows Foot couldn't be used? We're not talking about a great deal of TQ and a click on the TQ wrench is a click.

No reason you can't use a crows foot, but the torque would be slightly different because of the leverage.

Great write-up, one unrelated question:

What do you recommend to get/keep an engine as clean as the one in your photos?

Thanks,
