found the limit of my OFE

so heres the deal i want more power from my truck for towing, i have been reading and reading and not sure if i want to mess with electronics, so here is what i am thinking, if bought a stock set of injectors had them tested and put bigger nozzles in them, would the dealer/computer pick up on the bigger nozzels vs a downloader or performance box? what are your thoughts?

IF u are worried about dealer u might look into a Smarty as well. Not sure about the injectors, alot of people say the 60hp setting dose a great job towing! Just my $. 02 worth!

Truck Profile

2005 Patriot Blue two toned with sliver, SLT 4x4, QC, 20" Ultra Wheels with 305x55x20 Nitto Terra Grapplers, Volant CAI, Aero Turbine Muffler, Sirius Radio, gauges and power mods coming soon??

Sorry about the truck profile i thought i had filled it out and was working guess i'll look into that thanks bob for posting that, i had thought about the smarty i am just not sure i want to get into messing with electronics etc, can some one please explain to me how the smarty works vs. say like Edge?

Cummins724, what do you mean injectors will only make heat with a stock turbo? sorry for all the dumb questions but i just dont want to blow my truck up by doing something wrong. Dealer knows i am going to a power adder, they suggested that maybe the injectors would be a better idea over messing with electronics period. thanks for the help all

:--) You told the dealer :--) Tell them you reconsidered adding power and then add a smarty without telling them. If you have to take the truck back to the dealer you can put truck back to stock in under 2 min. :-laf

Smarty reprograms the engine computer by plugging into the diagnostic port. You plug it in, program (bout 5min) then unplug ;) . The edge is a separate box, with its own wiring harness, that connects to the wiring of the truck and modifies the signals too add more power (more timing, injector duration). The advantage the edge has, and other like it, is on the fly adjustability. The smarty takes 5min to re-program.

Here is a couple of websites that explains the two.

www.madselectronics.com and www.edgeproducts.com .

If you go with a box heres another fine option: www.tstproducts.com .

Also do you have an auto or a manual? Were are you located? Because if you live around another member that has a smarty he'll probably let you try it :D -I know at one time there were a couple of smarty loaners floating around to try out. DON'T TRY IT... . you'll like it :-laf

The tuners like smarty are adjustable & if you tow... will be able to turn it down or off completely. The injectors will be pouring fuel in & there is no control of the heat that you are building in the engine. The stock turbo on the 3rd gen is small for a stock truck & injectors would only make it hotter. Boxes or tuners [some] will add timing to clear up smoke/heat. Some will raise the rail pressure to increase combustion with more atomized fuel because of higher pressures.

Well i personally went with the smarty, and i love it!! The smarty is dealer non detectable, it will give you slightly better fuel econemy, you can add tons of power and with the new downloads for it you can tailor it to your likings. I probably would stay away from putting injectors in it unless you want to make mad power but you'll need more than injectors to do that. I have also heard good things about tst and edge but i wanted something easy to completly remove and i don't like performance enhancers that trick the stock ecm. A downloader is the easiest performance enhancer.

I use a 100hp quadzilla in my truck. It noramaly is set in the low setting, ajust timing only. I do get better MPG if I drive normal and if I want more hp turn the dail for short blasts. It does tow a lot better with this box. I had a edge in my old truck but like the in cab adjustable better. I need to learn more about the smarty, sounds interesting. I am just here to learn too.
