I installed a Carter - P4601HP fuel pump and vulcan big line kit this weekend.

Two questions 1st at idle i only have 11 psi isn't this pump rated at 18psi???

second i am geeting a resonating pump noise in the cab. is there a ruber isolation kit made for this pump? or is there any other way to quite it down???

They do have an isolator kit for that pump dont know the part number, on mine I just used some thick rubber pads and it knocked down the cab noise by about 80 percent. About the pressure cant help you their, maybe someone else can help.

That pump should have came with all the mounting hardware, including three rubber pads that go in the bracket where the pump bolts to it. I have used several of the 4601 pumps, some do 15-16psi, some only do 8-9. There not very consistent. And they usually don't last, but they do last better than the stock lift pumps on the 98-02 trucks and their cheaper.

Return line what holds back the lift pump pressure

Return line what holds back the lift pump pressure?? Is there a pressure check valve?

Could the return line circuit have a direct result in lift pump pressure??

I have the pressure sensor from vulcan, i taped it to the output line from the fuel filter. even with the new carter pump, i only have 11 psi at idle. at top end full throtel, the led low pressure light flickers. With the stock lift pump the light came on solid at almost full power.

why am i still getting a flicker in the lift pump low pressure indicator light

???

There is a check valve. It is on the driver side of the injector pump, right in front of the fuel inlet where the return comes out. I think the pressure your seeing is normal for that pump. I just installed one today and it read 9 psi at idle. The best pump I have tried is the Aeromotive "Hot Rod" pump. They are around $150 from summit and the ones I have installed have out lasted anything I've tried yet(besides the walbro and FASS). But they also come with problems. The shaft seal in the pump draws up in cold weather and will drip on some of the pumps. They don't have a replacement or updated seal out for them yet. But those pumps with usually always do 16-17 psi at idle and hold 14psi at WOT on a moderately modded truck.
