Hello all (and hope you have a good new year!). Just bought the Mopar "flip-up" tow mirrors for my 2001 Ram 1 Ton. Purchased them at a local dealer for $245. 00 (Note: I called 2-3 other dealers and got quotes anywhere from the $245. 00 up to $365. 00
so it does pay (save) to check with different stealers before laying out the cash. They come with very detailed installations. Also included are 2 new (1 for each side) heavy duty reinforcing steel plates to handle the added weight of the longer/larger mirrors. And 6 of the plastic trim plugs for the door panel. I highly recommend that you have (or get) a door handle removal tool as well as the tool that pops out the trim plugs. After removing the 2 screws in the pull handle cup and the one by where the electric mirror control is (was
), you pop out only 2 of the plugs. (clearly shown on instructions). Prop the panel away from the door itself, un-do your heat/mirror control plugs, remove the 2 nuts, take off the factory mirror, put on the new mirror, add the reinforcement plates, put back the 3 nuts, install your 2 new trim plugs, pop the panel back in place, and replace the screws.
Took me about 1 hour total, and about 3 bans-aids from cuts/scrapes on the plastic trim. Hope this info. will be of interest to anybody considering these mirrors. I love them. Lost the power and heat, but a good trade for the visibility increase. And, they do not vibrate or give any problems at any speed.
Just my 2 cents worth. Still enjoying the TDR website in Alabama...
