Hello all (and hope you have a good new year!). Just bought the Mopar "flip-up" tow mirrors for my 2001 Ram 1 Ton. Purchased them at a local dealer for $245. 00 (Note: I called 2-3 other dealers and got quotes anywhere from the $245. 00 up to $365. 00  so it does pay (save) to check with different stealers before laying out the cash. They come with very detailed installations. Also included are 2 new (1 for each side) heavy duty reinforcing steel plates to handle the added weight of the longer/larger mirrors. And 6 of the plastic trim plugs for the door panel. I highly recommend that you have (or get) a door handle removal tool as well as the tool that pops out the trim plugs. After removing the 2 screws in the pull handle cup and the one by where the electric mirror control is (was :( ), you pop out only 2 of the plugs. (clearly shown on instructions). Prop the panel away from the door itself, un-do your heat/mirror control plugs, remove the 2 nuts, take off the factory mirror, put on the new mirror, add the reinforcement plates, put back the 3 nuts, install your 2 new trim plugs, pop the panel back in place, and replace the screws.

Took me about 1 hour total, and about 3 bans-aids from cuts/scrapes on the plastic trim. Hope this info. will be of interest to anybody considering these mirrors. I love them. Lost the power and heat, but a good trade for the visibility increase. And, they do not vibrate or give any problems at any speed. :D Just my 2 cents worth. Still enjoying the TDR website in Alabama... :p

There is a thread around that has instructions on how to adapt the 2003 power/heated flip out mirrors to the 2001 non pwr/htd mirrors by changing the bases.

I want the power heated ones... they kick arse in rain, keeping them dry, and so forth... I got a chance to use some on a 3rd gen, and they are nice... I emailed someone about a pair, and never heard back from them!! I think they would look good on my ride, WITH power/heat...

Pricing

Does anyone have pricing on the 03 Power/Heated Tow Mirrors? If this at all a reasonable price, I'm doing it!!

Thanks,

Chris

Trailer tow mirrors

Can I put these mirrors on my 97? I have the old style trailer tow mirrors. But the truck would have had the power chrome mirrors (its an SLT) so are all the wires behind the door panel for the power mirrors that would have been on the truck if I hadn't ordered the trailer tow mirrors? Can I just remove the black plastic trim piece and install the trailer tow mirrors from the later model trucks? Thanks for your help. Ken Irwin

Yes...

The 01-02 Viagra mirrors will fit any of the 94-02 trucks. I have done a set on my 98 and like them alot better than the old heated electric ones. Paid $180 for the complete kit.

To do the 03 conversion as they have said in the other thread you'll need a set of the 03 power heated viagra mirrors and a set of the 01/02 styles. The bottoms from the 01/02 need to be fitted with the heads from the 03 mirrors to make it work as the 03 body lines are different than than the older trucks. Not something I want to tackle. I do enough driving with stationary mirrors to know I am not going to spend the elaborate amount of money the stealer wants for the 03 set... ... ... . Andy

When I bought mine (about 9-months ago) they were $374 +tax for the pair, from the dealer.

Later, Rob

BTW, it was worth every penny, they're great!

Oh, ouchie

Rob,

Thanks for the pricing. And, I completely agree, worth every penny. I'd love to have them.

But my wife might just have to continue leaning out the window at 65 to adjust them for me. I can buy a lot of wind burn cream for that much money. :D

Chris

Power/Heated $345. 00 List for 2003's, and worth every penny IMHO, I think I was pretty dumb for not getting them originally. My sales counselor (ha ha) let me 'have' them for $285. 00.

Wester,

Was that price for a pr. or ea. ? If that was for a pr. , could you post the part # since I need to replace mine.

TIA

Hammer where did you get the kit for THAT price.

I co-op in a Caddy Dealer adjoined to a Dodge dealer and even with my discount its $213.

Let me know if I can get them for that price cause I'm about to order a pair!

OK, maybe I will do this...

OK, maybe I was wrong. I think I might attempt this.

Has anyone actually done this yet? I've seen the instructions but would like to hear first-hand how it goes.

I also have the PN listed above for the 3rd gen mirrors. Does this include the little adjusting knob/switch that mounts on the door? If not, does someone have the PN for that?

I don't care too much about the heat switch, I can handle that myself.

Thanks for any feedback!

Did you run outta wind burn cream, or is your wife tired of bein' pelted with snow that feels like rocks at 65mph? :D

I did this on mine, and I wrote the instructions, it goes just like the instructions say. The part number for the mirrors does not include the switch or knob, which you need to order both, they don't come together (switch and knob that is), roughly $20 for the switch, and $6-8 for the knob. Sorry I don't have the part number. Have fun! If you want, I can PM you my phone number.

Sorry, about the confusion the last post of mine was in response to an inquiry I made of Mopar4less. I included it just for informational purposes.

I am not affilliated with any seller of parts.

Thanks!

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the good information and for taking the time to help the rest of us do this. The instructions look very straight forward.

Well, you know, I was just plain WRONG about not doing this!!

My wife says "this is the first sensible thing you want to do to this truck and now you are thinking about not doing it". . Gosh, that hurts...

Anyway, thanks for the info on the mirror adjustment switch and such. That clears it all up.

I might drop you a phone call or PM if I get in a tight spot... .

Thanks for the offer.

Chris

Has anyone heard when or if a power version of the flip up towing mirrors will be available for the pre-2003 trucks? I have a 2001 and would like to add the flip up towing mirrors but do not want to spend over $500 to buy two sets of mirros to make an electric heated set. If they would be available in the near future that would be great. Otherwise I may have to bite the bullet and just eliminate the power and heat.

It sure would be nice, but I don't think you will ever see it. The company that made the mirrors made them especially for Dodge, and can't sell them to anyone else. Dodge sure as heck ain't going to do it. Actually, you can get a free 2003 Dodge Ram truck with the purchase of the 2003 heated / power mirrors for $35,000.
