I'm in the middle of rebuilding my engine. Both the intake/exhaust rockers and the pins they sit on are scored. At $48/rocker and $15/pin it seems pretty expensive. Are there any other sources of these rockers, or an aftermarket set? The machine shop said the rockers should clean up a little and then replace the pins. I really don't want to "half ***" this. It is defiinately going to be put to the max once its back together. Just thought I would see if there was any other options out there before dropping $700 on rockers. Thanks. Lee.

Lee, I am sure you don't want to go cheap, but, really how difficult would it be to replace the rockers later. I had a broken one and I must admit they are NOT cheap.

You are right, I don't/not going to do this "half ***. " I was just seeing if there was a alternative route to take. If there isn't then I'll just replace with oem parts. I just thought I would check, spending $700 just to replace factory parts with no gain, or spending $700 and getting something more in return. Anyone that knows me or has seen my truck knows it doesn't get used lightly. So if I can upgrade anything nows the time to do it. Lee.

Unfortunately there is no aftermarket rockers in mass production to speak of for the common rail or 2nd gen 24V.

Lee I would watch ebay for set...

BTW the CR rockers have increased lubrication over the older 2nd gen units...

Thanks for the help. I have been looking on ebay for some parts. Just thought I would check around a little. Does anyone know which is made of softer material? Rocker or pin? The machine shop said they can polish the rockers up and put new pins in and it should be alright. The rockers would still have slight scoring in them. I just want to know it the rockers would just chew the new pins up? Lee.

I guess I could, but that sounds like too much work! I think they are not salvagable. If the end result after polishing them up is they still have some scoring in them, then what is the point of doing it in the first place? I asked if they could be filled and then remachined. There response was that they could do it, but then your right up to the $$$ amount of just replacing them. I wouldn't have a problem having them "cleaned" up, if I knew it wouldn't be a problem down the road. You know what I mean? Lee.
