If you are talking about the kind that the stud stays on the hitch and you swap the ball only, I've used one for about 6 years, but for light weight trailers 5,000 max. only. First one was steel and one of the balls rusted on and I couldn't get it off. Afraid to use heat on something like a hitch ball. The one I have now is stainless, and havent had a problem with it.

I've used mine for 2 years. I tow a car trailer (2 5/16"), a boat (2"), and an occasional grill (1 7/8"). Mine is rated for 15K pounds. It is very handy and makes towing something a little easier in that now I only need to worry about wiring connectors.

Have used a converta ball for about 10 years on 1 ton service truck. towed up to 15k#. Put several 100k miles on them. Changed out sizes often ( all 3 balls ) and kept them oiled, never any rust problems.
Have used them on my PU's for same amount of time ( all 3 balls ), boats, car hauler and TT. Never any problems.

I agree with C. D. Day. I also have the stainless steel convertible hitch ball (1 7/8" and 2") on my Polaris 6x6. It has worked very well so far although, I only tow an approximate limit of 1500 lbs. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on my Ram to tow a light trailer though. The best part... NO RUST! If I remember correctly, I purchased it from JC Whitney for about $50.

I have owned 2 sets of Convert-A-Ball's in the past 15 years. 1st set was chrome plated and they rusted after the chrome was worn off. 2nd set is stainless and no problems since purchased 3 years ago. Purchased them through www.awdirect.com

..... no problem here mikec, I have the stainless steel Convert-A-Ball system. Thanks for the heads up though.
