Okay, I have a question. The following is a quote from the "article"

"The VP44 injection pump on the 24V is built with such tight tolerences, that it is said a single fingerprint during assembly can cause premature pump wear and failure. Friction modifier from the ATF would certainly accelerate pump wear. "

What does ATF have to do with the VP44 pump:confused: Doesn't only fuel go through the pump

how to join...

Is there a link to join that newsgroup??? Looks like another pretty good group. I searched for a join page but never found one.

I find it very amusing that this Chrysler gold certified tech called the overhead mileage computer "worthless". His words not mine.

Batman, The reason he mentioned ATF in his VP44 speach was because it seems some people are trying to use ATF as a lubrication additive in their fuel.

Anybody want to buy a used K&N??

Just kidding..... Not to flog an already deceased horse, but I'm keeping mine. My oil analysis came back @ 8ppm silicon, which is just fine. If the K&N's are letting in so much dirt, why isn't it showing up in my oil? As long as my oil analyses are good, no reason for me to go back to the stock airbox, regardless of what DC says.

Just my . 02.

(This is not intended to start another K&N debate!)

int- artic

bateman- hi, if you read the rest of the thread, the atf has friction modifiyers for the trans, not good for the pump, and in time, i understand, will produce varnish not good for the rest of the engine. the machanics from where i used to work said it would help clean the injectors, maybe, i use cummins brand of cleaner. but still a good article for reading. think if it's not ment to be used don't. this piece of machinery is my second love. why break it?

Well guys, thanks for explaining why "some" use ATF. But, why don't they just use fuel additive instead? Isn't that what IT'S made for???

TxDieselKid:

Go to www.deja.com this is a newsgroup search engine. Type in keywords that you are looking for, (ie. Dodge cummins). You can also click on the users name and it will show you all of their threads. Click on Brents name he has a lot of info on Dodge vehicles.

Batman,

If we all just "used it as it was made" and never experimented, we'd never have a fueling, or timing box, BHAF, NO2, propane, or any of the other strange inventions posters have come up with for our beloved Cummins.

Gearheads ALWAYS have to try somthin' different. ;)

"Scotty, all ahead warp factor 9. "

Shovelhead,

Okay, okay, I get it. I was just a little perplexed as to why someone would use ATF in their fuel, that's all. (BTW, glad I didn't comment about K&N air filters on the other thread):D

It's a USENET newsgroup

TxDieselKid:

alt. autos. dodge. trucks is a normal USENET newsgroup that you can "subscribe" to using any newsreader. You can certainly use the Web-based news front ends, but to get the most out of newsgroups you should consider a newsreader application. Agent is a free one (http://www.forteinc.com/), or if you use MS Internet apps, Outlook has a newreader built in.

Not that I'm discouraging you, but I read a. a. d. t for a couple of years before getting my CTD and subscribing to TDR. Since then, I quit reading a. a. d. t entirely. There was sooooo much fighting, whining, and general "noise" that you can hardly find the very occasional useful article. Since I've got TDR now, I've never looked back.

TDR is tops when it comes to our trucks! :)

P. S. And see, I still don't have to read a. a. d. t, since if there anything worthwhile, then it looks like another TDR member will tell us. ;)

The information Brent gave was great information.

Brent was the one who gave me all of the information to assist me in getting the pull fixed on my truck :D .

Batman, ATF in the fuel is something the old timers used to do back in the days when ATF didn't have all the additives it does now and there wasn't the wide variety of fuel additives there are nowadays. Many people are still adding ATF due to this old practice even though it's harmful for the engine. If you are going to add anything to your fuel use an additive that is designed for diesel fuel.

YES ATF I REMBER IT WELL,WE USE TO USE IT TO CLEAN STICKY LIFTERS ON OUR GASSERS,WE ALSO USED #2 TO FLUSH ENGINES THAT ALSO WORKED VERY WELL
