Hey,

Does anyone have a better source for these plastic clips than the dealer? I went there today and they wanted $4. 85 per clip!!! After doing some checking his price went down to $2. 95 per.

I read about problems with some of the aftermarket ones so just wondering what works.

If your talking about the christmas tree clips, any windshield/glass replacement shop/paint shop will have them for all makes and models..... they do around here anyway. And they work great... . usually one or two times of taking the panels/trim off and they need to be replaced... .

or you could go to your local body shop and take one to referance they will have them because we have them in here at our bodyshop,,, the clips that the dealer buys are aftermarket just repackaged or just packaged for the dealer

Dsather... ..... I would quit that dealer for ANY parts purchase. He is definitely "gigging" you. I bought OEM door panel retainers from my dealer for under a buck each.

As tough as the clips held on to the inner door and to avoid breaking the place on the plastic door panel, I slid up a sharp knife and cut them then removed the door panel. Even at $2. 00 a piece... . much cheaper than a new door panel.

Matt, Do you know if that is the same clip that the Third gen takes? I have a set of origionals that I bought for my '01 and never used.

No Clips for 3rd Gen

It's not. I have a third gen at work. It doesn't use clips at all. It uses a design I wish I had thought of and patented. On a third gen, remove the screws and knobs. While pushing in toward the door metal, slide the door panel up. That's it. It'll come off.

The third gen uses rectangular slots in the sheet metal, and L-shaped protrusions on the plastic. It's so obvious that it's scary. Not only is it simple to remove (with less damage), it would save several seconds per door on the assembly line.

Thanks Matt. They must have gotten that concept from Mercedes. The early 240D's and 300D's had the same thing. The BAD part about that is if you get some lame brain thinking that the panel has door clips instead of this hook type. They try to pull the panel straight off. I have worked on MANY Mercedes that these were broken off.

I read the instructions. Strange but true. :D
