Bug Out

TDR MEMBER
I drove to Long Beach in Dec. 2000( Diesel fest) and twice while on I-5 the cruise control stopped working as if I had tapped the brakes. Green light stayed on so I reset the cruise and it kept working. Seemed to be after 1-2 hours on, it would kick off.

Today, coming back from another trip, it did the same thing. Just popped off like I had hit the brakes. Reset, and it works till it pops off.

Its more of a PITA now, but if it gets worse, I'm sure I'll be scratching my head.

Anybody had similar problems?

Thanks in advance. Ed

Yes I read a few post aaout this. If you wish check the archives if not answers will come.
The cruise is operated by vacuum and electronics. The cruise servo is under left battery tray.
The TPS, Vehilce speed sensor,PCM and I believe engine speed sensor have rolls in making the cruise work.
There is cannister inside of air cowl this is a reserve vacuum tank (I believe both diesels and gassers have this tank)check for leaks if you loose vacuum momentarily cruise speed will be lost. Not electronically but mechanically or I think it would. If electronic problem you would have to reset speed unless the PCM is cable of storing the speed you were going if one of the sensor was having problems. Don't have my manual with me so trying to go from memory.

Steve, you sure there's an upper limit,I've set mine at 110 and it worked. #ad

Ed,it might be that the brake pedal switch needs to be adjusted back some. Last time I drove I-5 between LA and Sac I remember it being a bumpy ride, the pedal may be clicking the switch on certain types of bumps. Also your brake pedal could be binding on it's pivot and not be fully returning upwards. The pivot is supposed to be greased if it is ever disassembled, that means it does require lube, could be your lube has dried up or was never applied in the first place.
All the above goes for the clutch also but it's switch is further down on the pedal stroke and isn't as likely to be the problem.
