i have been looking at turbos for a while and it looke like the htb2 is what i want, not sure though if I should get the 62 or the 64. the truck is an 02 auto, with a comp, and I would like to go somewhere in the area of 150hp injectors. I dont tow much and when I do its no more than 8k pounds.

let me know what yo uthink. thanks, Dan

I cannot answer the 64 question for you but I have the 62-12. I realy like it. No matter what you do somone will tell you you should have done something else. I am no turbo expert and it gets tiring to read all the oppinions of those that have the wherewithall to have tested 6 or 8 different roundy things.

My best advice is to talk (talk is free) with the person selling you the turbo. If they sound like a telemarketer run fast and far. See if they are using what they sell. Get comfy with your vendor.

a 62/14 might be a bit small to tow with that combo. A 64 might be a better choice. If it was just a daily driver (no towing), the 62/14 would be fine.

IIRC, my PDR 40 is something like 61/16. Not really enough air to tow. Have to keep an eye on the pyro. Even with 3-5k @ 70mph.

I run a 62/12 with a set of supermentals and with the box off it is fine. I have towed about 10K and no issues, but I wasn't running it that hard. I have towed about 7k and egt would pop up to about 1150-1200 and would stay there no matter how hard I was in it. I chose the 12 cm housing cause I want the spool up to be as fast as possible, between shifts and everything. 150's might be a little hot for the 62/12 setup. Couple guys have done the 64/14 for daily driving and I haven't heard any complaints. Jwilliams buddy bought one and I am still waiting feedback from him on his 12V.

I figure if I tow I can turn the box down also. but for another 100$ I can get the 64. I will be talking to the company I buy it from, but I also like to hear first hand from users of the product.

Go with the 62... . Spoolup will be much better and you can always turn the box down. Towing with larger turbos is tough, too slow of spoolup will actually increase egt's. Get the 14 housing and you will be happy.

I agree with Doug, as I have the 64/14 now and had a 62/12 and towed with both. The 64/14 keeps things cooler on top end and has more air, but the 62 spools easier which is important in towing even with a std. although you have a auto.

yeah I think thats what I will do, I can turn down the box towing. and empty that will cool all of that right? I dont beat on it a lot but mainly now because it shifts horribly. after the trans i think my foot will be in it a lot more

Shouldn't be EGT issue with the 62, empty. I can keep my EGTs in check on the street just fine. The 62 would be even better.

so Im still not sure. Im leaning toward the 64 because I may want to add a smarty or catcher down the road, and dont want to outgrow a turbo. I tow rarely so Im not to worried about that. my main issue is being able to cool what I have. i will definately be using bd 155hp injectors and the comp is allready installed.

any feedback from users with similar setups would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dan

I run an htb2 62/14 with 100hp sticks and run my comp on 2/1 when towing

it keeps it cool :D give chris @ River City Turbo a call (501)562-7488 he's a good guy to deal with !!!

Big laggy turbos are no fun. I went from a 66 to a 64 and my truck is so much more fun to drive without falling all over it's face. If I could try a 62 I would. My 64 cools better than my 66 did. It start making boost a couple hundred rpm lower where by the time the 66 lit, the pyro was already heading for the roof. Hard to catch up...

Doug, what size compressor and exhaust housing would a a B1-2, B1, and steriod have? I ran a b1-2 with 150hp M4s and a Comp and that was a cherry setup. Great spool and stayed cool.

I think you would be better off with a Super Phat Shaft 62/80. It gives you more air and the exhaust drive pressure is low. It would be a perfect fit for your truck. Jetpilot can help you with that choice and he knows very well what would be best for you with your truck tuned as yours is. Thanks

Im thinking i will go with the 62/14 and if I need more its only like 150$ to upgrade the compressor to 64. I havent had enough experience with diesel turbos yet, so at least this is cheap to upgrade.

lag doesnt bother me especially considering my street car doesnt make full boost untill 4300 rpm :D

I think that is a good choice, for exactly the reason you stated. It was the same thing I was thinking when I bought mine. Besides you could always put an S400 under it! :D

this is now a possibility, so would a 62 be more eficient than the htb's 62?

Im so lost on the diesel turbos, i have had turbo gas jobs and this is a different world!

good questions, i am in the same boat and am looking at HTB2 or Phat shaft 62/14. . that is about the right combo for my setup right???

A 62/14 will support that amount of horsepower, depending on what you use you pickup for. If you tow alot turn the comp down, for some EGT relief.
