Is Delo 400 safe to use?

About time for the first oil change, and I was wondering if Delo 400 could be used in my 5. 9 Cummins. I use it all the time in our 8. 3 Cummins motorhome.

Any suggestions appreciated. Would also like to know what oil most of you use in your rams.

I am not going to open the door by saying which one is best. However, I will say that Shell's Rotella, Chevron's Delo 400, and Amsoil (for the synthetic users) are popular.

Do a search and you should have plenty of information to make a well-informed decision.

From what I have read/researched the Delo 400 is one of the best, if not the best, conventional oil. The Rotella T is a very popular oil, and in my neck of the woods, the Mobil Delvac 1300 has the market for the OTR guys. Currently I'm running the Valvoline PB, and will likely switch to Delo at the nest oil change. It is MY opinion that the Delo is the best of all the oil's mentioned.

Me and my Dad have used this oil in,
Our '92 1st Gen 12 valve,, 75+K
our '96 2nd Gen 12 valve,, 92+K
our '98. 5 24 valve ,,, 100+K

It os really good stuff.
We change oil between 5,000-7,500 Miles.
Our trucks used almost NO oil. and had excellent oil pressure.
Daily load for ALL these trucks was a 30,000 Lbs Gooseneck trailer.

Delo 400 iso-syn is a recent reformulation which now uses a base stock that is superior to that of most other conventional oils. My oil analysis results showed about half the wear metal levels that I got with the older version of Delo (which were pretty good). Delo 400 iso-syn is a bargin at less than $6. 00 per gallon. In my opinion, Delo is the way to go if you are not planning on extended drain intervals.

Not only is it OK to use, it smells great!

I'm now using LE 8800; and although I feel better using this oil, I miss the smell of the Delo 400.

Cooker, Why are you switching from PB to Delo? I use PB now but it's a PITA to get around here. I usually buy it in Savannah at Cummins South. Just curious.

I'm sure the Delo 400 is good stuff. I use Rotella T in my truck. It seemed like it was easier to find. This is my 2nd cummins with 100,000 miles combined, no problems as of yet.

oh ya,dello is the best i've ever used,next time you get some old grease on your hands try rubbing some dello on it,it really has a lot of detergents in it i guess. I get mine at cosco for 33 bucks a case[ 6 1gal jugs ] I too love the smell and no blow by,the dealer uses some additive with there oil.

The reason I'm switching is becasue the PB doesn't have all that great of a pour point (-22). The Delo has a pour point of -38. That was my original intention, but after further research I think the Delo is the better of the two oils. I don't think the PB is a bad oil by any means. I personally think it is second when it comes to selecting an oil of a major MFG (ie Mobil, Penzoil, Valvoline, ect... ) Another very small reason is that it is more widely available, but this wasn't really a deciding factor for me.

Haven't used anything but Delo 400 for the last 25 years. Purchase 15W40 in 55 gallon drum and use it in every engine. Gas or diesel.

We use exclusively Dello 400 in all of our Diesels trucks including our 25K watt generators.
Both of our diesel mechanics say it is the best! We have our own 100 gallon pump station that we lease from Chevron.

I switched from Valvoline PB to Delo 400 last year. A seasoned diesel mechanic recommended Delo 400 because of its low ash content. As with Joe's posting, its available at COSTCO at a good price.
