SO from MY other thread. I lost My VP44 After talking to Blue Chip i decided to purchase the replacement Vp 44 from him I went to my local high performance shop and told them I wanted the $2400 dollar pump with the 2 year unlimited milage warrenty they agreed. Today they are installing the Pump I am on my ship in alaska working and the Diesel repair shop calls me and wants me to add the smarty and not use the edge Comp any more. I purchased the Pump cover for the Pump that has the external tap wire connection. I do know there is some heartache that the edge comp will do bad things to the VP44. The Diesel shop said that if i am not happy with the smarty that they will reinstall my edge Comp at no cost.

MY QUESTION TO YOU Fellow Diesel heads

Did I make the correct choice by going with the smarty???

Please feel free to comment on the Smarty and my choice.

I have been very busy to do much research.

Thank you very much

Chris

Was there anything wrong with your Edge? Make sure youve got a healthy lift pump and a fuel pressure gauge to monitor lp pressure. After making a big investment on the vp, a good lift pump is cheap insurance :)

UPDATE.

Got the truck back. New Blue Chip VP44. With the Blue Chip i purchased the Cover with the Tap connetion for the pump wire as i was going to reinstall the edge COmp. The Shop talked me into the Smarty and out of reinstalling the edge Comp. as I was looking for long term relaibility. I have all gauges big air in and Big down tube and big exhaust out. Stock injectors and built transmission. as I said before i dont like change. anyway been driving the truck on smarty level 7. Hard to compare to a edge Comp on 5X5 That really made a difference. Since I will be pulling my 5ver soon to FLA I am going to leave it at this level and see what happens I am very happy with the diesel shop. they took good care of my truck protected the seats and at this point i am very satisfied. The owner knew I was going to be going on this road trip so he did a thorough inspection and found a U joint on the Right front axel cracked. I had him replace both. As far as the Smarty ??? we will see how i feel after i play with it some more and tow with it. ROKS Diesel Performance in Wasilla AK did my work I am A very Difficult customer in general and they did great by me.

Thanks for reading.

Chris

Dunno - I've had the Edge Comp on my truck since new, and use the truck to pull our KIT 5er. With the mods listed in my sig, I get the power also listed there, NEVER any issues with power or EGT, even under load in these steep eastern Oregon grades. From what I've read, few users are unhappy with the Smarty - I had one of the older ones along with my Comp, but eventually sold it because it was inconvenient to change settings on those older units. In my case at least, and with my specific truck and mods, I have absolutely NO complaints, nor do I need to constantly watch boost or EGT gauge settings regardless of speeds or loads.

I don't think you will have ANY complaints with the Smarty, either!

Gary?????, your back, welcome and good to hear from you again

Glad you're back Gary! I noticed you still have the ole' classic Winnebago! How is she running?

Been all thru the Winnie - new tires and Bilstein shocks all around, refrigerator freezing unit, new plugs and wires, plus re-timing for better power and MPG - a very nice and quality built runner and quite comfortable!
