ATS quickspool cams?

Was pulling our 5vr a few weeks ago over Snoqualmie Pass in Washington state & while under pulling under a heavy load I started surging fairly bad. When I backed out of the throttle it would go away. Has anyone else had this problem with an EZ?

Not sure if it was the EZ or what but only does it under a heavy load usually going over a pass with the 5vr in tow.

Thanks,

Clay

Was the cruise control on at the time? If so, the CC is the problem as the ECM can't react quick enough for the increased power. .

you need to cut the vaccum hose going to the CC motor and insert a skinny traw like lube spray have and reconnect. . I used gasket glue and tape. . good enough for small vaccum hose. ... this will sloww the reaction of the CC and stablize it.

I had the same problem under heavy tow load. Disconnect the ez it was some better but still there. Took it in to read the codes and it was th vp44 gone south. This was at 203,000 miles and lp gone bad just 8000 miles ago. Replaced the vp44 and the ez as well. Have a load this week so will test it out.

I'll have to run over to my brothers place tomorrow & use his Smarty to scan for codes. It's done it for a while & have checked for codes before & had none. I'll check it out & post the results. I'm headed East again in a few weeks & I think I'll disconnect the EZ & see how it goes. Maybe I can get my brother to part with his Smarty for a weekend & run that & see if it goes away..... Of course, thats only if I don't have any codes stored!

Thanks,

Clay

Clay, you might want to pull the connectors apart and use a little contact cleaner. Add a little dielectric grease when you re-assemble. Probably wouldn't hurt to check all of the grounds.

I also got some funny surging once with a dirty air filter. Even the BHAF gets dirty occasionally!
