I had the trailer on yesterday and found the the interior noise is a lot less when I have a load. I have noticed this before but never thought to post it here. All I can hear is the turbo spooling, that is very audible, and would probably drive a normal person nuts, but I don't mind it. So, are your trucks quieter when towing? If so, any guesses why?

I think it may have something to do with the timing changing with more throttle. The more throttle, the less clank of the engine, and the quieter it seems.

I am joining the warmer less clatter opinion. My turbo spools like a mad-scarecrow. The overall noise seems to be the same as I have to turn down the radio when I roll to a stop.

Im not buying the warmer /quieter theory. I think it has to do with the load on the engine. The truck by itself isnt enough of a load to put much pressure on the enigne,so it is noisey, almost free revving. I notice this much more with trucks with 4. 10 gears, they are very noisey empty at 60+mph. Put a trailer behind them and they quiet down because they are working against soemthing now. If you free rev most engines they are noiser than with a moderate load. A engine with l light load is very noisey, at higher RPMs. I notice this a lot.

With my striaght stacks it's alot louder when loaded:D , after a long road trip I can't hear as well for a little while:eek:

Deeper, louder, love it

Guys:

Engine itself is quieter, but exhaust and turbo are louder. I love it and really like seeing folks checking me out as I pass pulling my 16K lb 5th wheel. How Sweet it Is!

Snow Man,

My truck is noticeably noisier when it is cold. So much so my neighbors complain. Same neighbors say it is quiet coming home after it is warm. I used to be a sonarman and from what I can tell I am about 3 db noisier in the morning.

go figure,

Andy
