well, thought i would open the head, o-ring it, add twins and a couple other little goodies before Tulare. Took the head over too a buddy of mine to hog it out and after magging the head, i found out it was full of cracks, COL... (cry out loud) Took a look at my B-1 and guess what, COLx2 (cry out loud again, ... . but louder). If u see my sig u will see that i am only running dd2's, so be careful everybody. EGT's kill motors, ..... and $1,700 turbos that don't cool anything down, oops. Any ways, this is mainly to let people know that although the B-1 maybe rock hard, it's exhaust housing is still made of cast iron and still cracks. This is the big B-1 too,. (16 cm). i hit 1500 a couple times, but never for more than ten sec. Hope opening the new head and installing the twins reduces egt's enough to keep the cracks away. Not flaming at all, just pre warning those of us who think are motors are undrestructable. The price we pay to have fun! Yep, and i'm gonna do it again, just for a couple more HP! Reb, do you have to get a new head or are you going to use the same one?

Could you give me or tell me where to get info. on the Tulare meet. I know nothing about it but I might like to go.

Info on the Tulare Meet was posted in the events forumn. It is also in the rear of the last TDR mag. It is sponcored by the DEPO in Porterville, Ca. Should be a great show. It is an all Diesel show. It is Oct. 12, and 13... . and is located at the Tulare Farm Agri Center off of 99. Should be a blast, can't wait!
 
1450, 1500, i never left it there. My dads truck on the other hand stays pegged for minutes at a time, oooooooooooooo. I'm gonna order a head before i even take the head off to o-ring and port it. I know that thing is toast, lol. His motor still peggs 50 psi at the flick of the throttle. My was going from over 50 psi to 48, to 46. I started worrying then. I sure things will be all better in a week or so, he,he.
 
oh, one more thing, only one crack was visible on the head. Once u mag the head with the special mag dust, it told a differnet story, ... so anybody who pulls the head to do some work might want to mag the head before dumping a bunch of money into it, ... later, Reb
 
When I got my B-1 I took a ggod look at it, I noticed hair line looking cracks in the exhaust section, it didn't appear to go all the way through, I thought it may be from the casting. I hope it poses no problems with the turbo. My B-1 works great!

Yeah it was probably just the DD2's, I doubt the nitrous and propane would of aided in your current situation. :-laf
 
I run both nitrous and propane as well with the B1 16cm turbo. Empty without the NOS or propane on I haven't seen 1500. At WOT the temp will hit 1400 as the turbo is spooling up but this is only for a couple seconds. The only real difference between what we have is I have an automatic and mentals. When I was running DD2's the NOS didn't make much of a difference. The way I understand it if the egt goes down with NOS you are running to big of a jet. Are you running the old style DD2's?
 
oh, somethings i was wondering, ... first, would hardened seat in our head prevent cracks, ... . all my cracks came from the valve out. Also maybe running propolyne glycol would help prevent cracks, because of nowe having hot spots near the valves, cause of the extremely hi boiling point of Prop. glyc. And the guy running mentals, propane, and Nos, ... have u pulled the head and magged it? Just curious. I could be running right now, i would have never know mine waqs cracked, until i magged it.

No I haven't it would require a obvious reason before I would pull my head off. So I won't know until I blow the head gasket...
