Chevy cummins conversions for sale

Why did you have to post a link to that auction?! You folks know how indecisive I am!!! :-laf

That thing is really slick. He got away 'easy', IMHO. Mechanical VE-pump'd 4BT and a mechanical A518. The mechanical 4B's have a front gearcase and the A518 is much shorter and a LOT smaller overall than my Allison. My ISB has a rear gearcase and huge SAE bellhousing... this makes the engine bay a bit tight by the firewall... hence my use of the sawzall on it. :)

My ISB/Allison did come as a combo (with all the wiring, etc. ), but the Allison is for a 2WD application. I could convert the Allison to 4x4... and I do have a recently freshened NP241D (LD) from my '94 12-valve when I swapped that to the NV5600/241DHD. There are adapters to mount the NV271 to an Allison, but not an NP241. D'oh! I could use the 241 as trade bait...

7" of lift is also way more than I wanted to go... That ZJ looks REALLY nice lifted like that, but I originally wanted a docile/grocery getter appearance to it and with that lift - it would stick out like a sore thumb. Also, his driveline angles are pretty good now - I'd hate to think what my rear shaft would look like with the Allison AND a xfer case. Grrr.

I guess I haven't ruled out 4x4 yet, but it could get interesting getting the medium duty Cummins ECM to play nice with the Allison - especially if the Allison is converted to support a xfer case. I don't know if there are any calibrations for the Allison TCM that would allow 4x4...

Believe it or not...

I haven't forgotten about this project. I still have all the bits and pieces... just need TIME to work on it. :-laf

Thanks to Deo - I ran across this little video. The chassis shown here is the exact same make/model/year that my ISBe/Allison combo came out of. So - if you're wondering what a bone stock "ISB 170" sounds like (sans muffler) - here's your chance!

If you would quit takin vacations up to Massachusetts you would have plenty of time to get some work done on it!!! J/K. I wondered if you still had this.

Get this thing done yet? Where abouts in Columbia county are ya?

Done? HA! I've been out working in the garage somewhat recently getting things organized and so forth. I do intend on putting some time in this summer. I'll keep ya'all updated.

I'm pretty close to Portage here in Columbia Cty. You're only about a half hour away over there in Columbus! Nice.

Cheers,

Matt

Advanced adapters...

I wonder if AA has mounts and adapters for this type of swap? I got an old CJ3B high hood I would love to do this with...

I doubt it.

My engine is a rear geartrain, common-rail, 16-valve, 3. 9L - everyone else uses the 'normal' front geartrain 8-valve 3. 9L.

There are times I wished I went the easy route. :)

If I ever get my DD up to snuff - I'm going to start working on the Jeep (again).

Little update on the project...

Yes - the rumors are true. I sold the Jeep.

Last summer I was contacted by a young kid in high school that needed parts for his '93 ZJ to keep it running. I sold him the automatic and transfer case out of my '96 ZJ - turned out to be a really good kid - the type you want to help out if you can.

Fast forward about 10 months and I get an email from him - asking what I was doing with the rest of the Jeep. Other than collecting dust and getting in the way... I wasn't doing anything with it - he caught me at a weak moment. Sold.

I was very, very sad to see it go... but the more I thought about the project, the more I realized I do no possess the skills or time to make such a thing happen without it being a complete hack job. I don't regret starting the project at all - next time I'll use a vehicle with a full frame (so that the body can be lifted off and/or cut to clear huge engines/transmissions bolted to the frame... ).

The engine/transmission combo will be up for sale soon - that combo was the perfect setup for my dream project... but now is just not the time. I'm far too busy to keep piling up projects and hanging on to expensive parts that others could make good use of.

Alas, like so many other big plans we all make, this one goes by the wayside. Oh well, it's still fun to dream about these things for awhile, eh?

I was looking at the diesel jeeps about 2 years back when the wife bought the chrysler minivan.

Pretty nice (MB diesel and transmission) and very expensive.
