I found this on Howstuffworks.com. Says it's a 2. 7 Liter CRD Direct-injection diesel for the 2003 Cherokee

well atleast were setting up the next generation of diesel lovers They wont even know what a inline pump is by then.

I guess there has been more than talk about light duty diesels. I thought there was alot of talk about using them, but it looks like one was made. It doesn't say who built it, all I saw was the picture.

Jeep diesel

The engine is made by VM. For years now the European Jeep

Grand Cherokee has been equipped with a 5 cylinder turbo

diesel while the standard cherokee was equipped with a 2. 5

4 cylinder turbo diesel, also the 4 cylinder was put in the

Liberty, which at this time is still known as a cherokee

in Europe and Australia. They were not CRD (common rail)

until last year. The new 2005 Liberty will have a 2. 8 L 4-cylinder.

Is it a 2. 7 ltr? The plastic on the engine cover appears to say 3. 7, but you can't really tell. . 1 of a Liter less in the GC over the Liberty doesn't really make sense, though.

Here's the Aussie version of the Cherokee, looks like 2. 7L 5-cylinder.
