Synthetic oil tech info

I just installed the edge juice with attitude and set it to level 3 with level 5 low boost. I get on it and after a good deal of smoke the low fuel pressur alarm goes off. This does have a new lifter pump as well as a new VP44. At idle i am getting between 8 and 10psi and the alarm is set at four and the truck drops to 3. Is this managable, i am not really even gotten totally on it yet so i am wondering what all this means.

Thanks

You need more fuel volume... ... ... ... ..... The stock pump can not keep up with the demand.

If your alarm is going off you are way too low on your fuel pressure and running the risk of toasting your VP44. Ditch the stock pump and go with a Glacier GFS392, FASS or Airdog and you won't have any more problems.

I need some more education on this lifter pump situation. I am reading that to much fuel pressure makes a hard start. Sounds like BD makes a pump that is kicked on bye the oil pressure. Does that work. My next question is which is better to replace the lifter pump, Auxilary pump, or an OEM bypass. I am on a budget, (but I know you get what you pay for) i am not racing but i do worry about this pump when i am towing since it is easy for me to hit 2psi when i hit the hills.

Thanks for the advice.

The lift pump runs all the time, oil pressure has nothing to do with it, unless it is an auxilliary pump which operates on demand. For the money the Glacier GFS-392 is your best bet, but the GFS-391 is a little cheaper. Check out www.glacierdieselpower.com for pricing. These systems are a little pricier than just a new pump or auxilliary pump, but they solve the problem instead of just patching it up.

Have you added injectors?

With the TST + Smarty + Mach 1's (65Hp) I could pull my fuel pressure below 3 psi. That lift pump is / was a good one and could hold 16 psi at idle.

Follow Bob4x4's advice.

I don't know when the latest ECM software was put into service. But do this quick test.

Listen carefully, or have some one put there hand on your lift pump. Don't start or try to crank your engine, just turn it on. The lift pump should run for less than a second and turn off. I believe that update is intended to prevent hard starting due to high fuel supply pressure.

The easiest mod, would be to move the OEM pump back to the frame rail using a Vulcan or Glacier kits. Both are priced well. If you do that, ensure to sound mount the pump. It is noisy and the frame rail magnifies the noise. As a bonus, you get rid of all the banjo fittings. My truck could not pull fuel pressure below 12 psi with the big line + draw straw set up.

You might consider installing a draw straw of some sort, the Vulcan kit is reasonably priced.

The FASS or Air Dog systems are also commonly used, but I have not used either.

I have 23psi idle... . no hard start. The trick is to run the pump on a relay which is triggered by the stock LP wiring harness red wire. This way the pump only runs for 2 seconds on startup to get it running... . then turns on the pump when the engine is running. You can add a Holley blue pusher pump & not break your wallet. Complete system installed only cost around $140. PM me for details.
