Just checked out a 2003 -2500 Dodge Cummins. Man is it quiet, sat with the hood up, idling, and carried on a conversation at the radiator without raising our voices with the salesman! Sorry Duramax freaks, but the Cummins is now quieter... ... Didn't go for a ride, was scared of what I might do! Like buy it... ... ...

Went to the Rodeo which is sponsored by Dodge and they had a new 2003 2500 with a Cummins and one with a Hemi. I walked up to the Cummins truck and didn't relize it was running until I got right on top of it. That thing sounds like a gasser. Was a nice looking truck.

I'm thinking about a new one, but I think I'll wait till next model year. I remember all the low power complaints & other problems back in 98. 5 when they went to 24 valves. This won't be any different. Besides if you want any upgrades, they'lll be more limited, more costly, and the truck will be a year old before anybody comes up with any goodies that matter.

I drove one, and liked the handling, and the extreme quietness. But, thatt wasnt enough to justify an extra 2 1/2 years of truck payments. Besides, the power didnt feel any different than what I have now. The one I tested was a 3500 srw auto 4dr. Maybe when mine has around 300,000 miles on it I might trade it in.

Yeah, NEVER buy the first production run of anything! It WILL have problems, fact of our production methods. Let 'em get it sorted out and the BOMB makers get ready for it.

BUT IF YOU MUST drive one home today--PLEASE ask the dealer to remove the muffler!!!

And when they hesitate, get out a hacksaw and a piece of pipe and start toward the truck! Gawd that'd be fun. Hack that sucker off right in the dealers lot. Tell 'em they could re-use it. :D

No it won't restore the rattle, but methinks the rumble is still there!

I agree

I agree on never buying first production run. I am keeping my old 95 forever. I am going for the record. Million? Can you say TWO million? But, the new 03s are nice and it looks to be a hit.

I did not like their looks at first, but they are starting to grow on me. Does not make a difference, since my truck only has 50K miles on it and I will be too old to drive by the time I wear this one out ;)

I want to look at one but my wife has laid down the 'law' that I can't EVER get rid of my Y2K. I just had the transmission built by DTT for $3400 to handle up to 1000 hp! Besides, my Quad Cab has about the same rear leg room as the newer 4 door. So , I guess I'm also going for 1,000,000 miles. :)

All this sounds quite appealing to me! So the clatter is all but gone. There are times when I would miss the clatter but not at the drive throughs or security shacks at different buildings I work in. So minus the clatter, is the "Cummins Humm" still there when you pour on the coal? Does it sound like a BIG six under there or has it gone to a whisper? I'd go drive one myself but I'd be inclined to buy it first year or not. :D

I drove a 2500 H. O. 4-wheel drive, 4-door last week. Yes it was a nice truck, but the power was not really that great and the 42,000 window sticker was a shock. I would not give up the one i have now just for a new one.
