I'm a first time ctd owner and I've been searching the forums the last couple of weeks learning what i can about my truck. I have a couple of questions. How serious is the kdp problem, is it in every year model, should I fix mine? also, I was reading about vin numbers and born on dates and the discussion about the "53" block. I was wondering what year models are effected and if my 94 could have an inferior block? Anyone else that has an automatic transmission and has any advice on making it last longer it would be greatly appreciated. thanks for all your experience and help. I bought my truck used. 94 with 184000, single cab, long bed, automatic with rebuild at 150000(how long can I expect it to last?). The man I bought it from kept a detailed log book, changed engine oil every 3000, transmission every 10000, etc. Most of the first 150000 were highway miles pulling his 30 foot fifth wheel. I drive mine daily on highway ,pull gooseneck stock trailer maybe once a week. Made in dodge city Kansas.

The 53 block is not a problem for a '94.

Kill the Pin!!

The KDP is a very serious problem, get it taken care of. It is a problem on all 12v engines and some of the early 24v engines.

I bought a '97 project truck, and trailered it home. See the photo below to see how I found the Dowel pin when I took the front cover off!! I removed the pin from it's hole with my fingers. It was just barely hanging in the hole.

Since the tab fix is so easy, and cheap, and the repair if the pin drops is so much work and so much money, I don't think there is any question:

Kill the Pin before it drops!
