On Monday I ordered kda kit from TST and planned on installing it this Saturday but last night parked on the road came out this morning and noticed a huge puddle of oil on the ground oped the hood and found oil all over I drove up to the car wash cleaned the engine found the leak from under the fan pulley bracket and with a flash light I can see a crack kind of ironic had the for a long time and just order the kit on Monday , a dollar short and a day late.

Mike,

We have been invaded!!!! Welcome to the big power. I had heard you got a cummins. Are you giving up the powerstrokes? What about the 2wd I haven't heard much on that lately is it running yet. :D

dan the 2wd will be done in the spring and I also am in market to buy a duramax. It is easier to sell products when you have a truck for your customer to go for a ride in. Hey watch that menthol seen a few trucks with the pistons tops removed.

cover was about 350$ if i remember correctly

labor was 2500 had to pull head and cam to get cover off

sorry about your problem my 97 was 1/2 out piers fixed

it when on the stand

Did this happen on your 96? How many miles were on it? I've been meaning to do my 97 with 124k miles but just haven't got a 'round tuit' yet... .

What are you waiting for? A pool of oil under the front end? Milage means squat. Some have failed under warrantee and some have gone a million miles with no trouble.

This thread is making me nervous. I have noticed an oil leak under by truck, (very small), but it appears its coming from the bottom of the timing case cover. Now I'm wondering if the KDP is causing this. I bought my 96 3500 last year & I'm sure the KDP has never been done. Does anyone know of anyone in the Northern Calif. area (I'm about an hour north of Sacramento) that fixes this? I called the dealer and they "don't know what I'm talking about"! Thanks

If you have an oil leak then the KDP may have already done the deed. Sometimes it just makes a little crack instead of breaking a big hole in the gear case. The fan mount has to come off to check for sure. The crack is between the upper two bolts in the second picture on this page: http://www.flex.net/~triplem/new/dowelpin.htm

BTW: you should include the year of the truck in your sig.

Thanks Joe G. Now I can worry about something else! ha I love my Dodge but now I have the KDP to worry about, the transmission is shifting in/out in 3rd going up and down the canyon every day (probably TPS sensor), and I put a new Geno oil plug in at last oil change and that keeps leaking (was torqued to 40 lbs then up to 45 lbs. and still leaks), so think the pan got warped! ouch... what next?:(

The stock drain plug works very well torqued to about 35ft/lbs or so. If the stock drain plug leaks it can usually be fixed with a new gasket. I don't like the after market drain plug contraptions. If you were a little closer (six hours) we could take a look at the problems in my garage. My in-laws used to live near Kelsey.

New KDP fix

Just bought my 2nd 95' 2500, (only got my first one last Feb), and the guy I bought it from said he had the KDP go and it cracked the case and no other damage. He said they replaced case with a NEW design that is cast solid over the KDP so it can't come out!! Is this true?. . If yes, it would seem that this could do away with all these jigs and other fixes!?! Have I stumbled on something? John G (still kinda new guy)Oo.

Thanks for the info Joe. I suspect the dealer used the 60 lb. torque that everyone on TDR talked about the dealers spec's were and I'm left with a possible warped pan. Anyway that will be a small fix compared to the KDP is that oil leak is coming from there. I'm still calling around trying to find someone around here to do the fix if possible. My boyfriend is a mechanic for the past 30 yrs. but he doesn't work on diesels so I haven't asked him if he wants the challenge or not yet. I can't believe you know where Kelsey is, that's right up the road from me! Small world!

If the KDP didn't get you and you can con your boy friend into doing the preventive fix, e-mail me for the instructions at -- email address removed -- .

People can drive thru Kelsey and not notice the place. My in-laws lived on Shoofly Road for years. Now there is a real well traveled road.

JohnG, the new case design has what they call a blind hole so the pin cannot come out again. It does do away with need for the jig but there are still so many of the older style out there.
