I'm finally going to surrender and kill the KDP. However, was wondering if anyone else down here in Southern Cal is slacking off like me, and wants to get a Jig and finish the pin off once and for all? :-laf BTW is there a "keeper of the KDP jig" around here? Oo. did some searches but came up with nothing...

I would like to, keep me posted, I'm in San Bernardino. PM me if you would like my phone numbers maybe we can go KDP hunting and kill a couple. Patrick.

I will volunteer my time to help out if there are a couple of trucks to wrench on. I should have an engine of my own to do in the next couple of weeks... freshly installed on a crate in the bed of my truck :D

I would suggest you pull the cover and check the bolts inside of the timing case.

I have seen the cover off of 4ea 1st gen engines so far. Every one had loose bolts on the camshaft retainer plate. If one of these bolts come out it will take out a cam and maybe other expensive parts.

The jig might be a fast easy fix. But IMHO I don't think it is a good fix. Our engines have other issues inside the timing cover.

I think mine may have not been loose Philip, I saw Mr. Gilbert suspiciously ratcheting sumthin under tha hood when we weren't lookin ;) lol

Seriously tho, this is great advice from Philip and I would strongly advise you to loctite all bolts under the timing cover like he says... you can get the tab right from cummins and you'd just have to bend it a bit... put in some gages at the same time and i guarantee you'll feel like you own the planet!

Do the bolts. It's really simple to have that peace of mind. Ask Tugboatphil what he thinks about bolt preventative maintenance.

Its a good time to perform some other tasks while your in that area. You'll be happy you did.

Ditto here on the bolts under the cover. We pulled the front cover off of one of our bus 5. 9s because it looked to be leaking from behind the gear case. So, I figured pull the cover and tighten the bolts and it'll be good for the month or so it has left until replacement. Wrong! One of the bolts behind the cam gear had backed all of the way out and was hitting the gear and dancing around in hole  . The case was cracked from that bolt hole down to the bottom. All of the other bolts were loose also. Needless to say it's out on the deadline waiting to go to surplus.
