Keep it mine - - switch

Please give me a couple of ideas of where to wire a simple on/off switch to try to keep my 06 Megacab in the Day family - - we are going to spend some time on the east Coast - - where vehicle theft is a major past time - - really don't want to spent a lot of time or $$ but something simple and trouble free , don't really want to interrupt the starter circuit. Thanks for your input.

anyway, I have mine in the starter circuit (even though you don't like it) works great.

Just stick the switch (SPST) in the wiring to the starter solenoid. Run/extend the wire to somewhere in the truck that's easy for you to find but hard for the bad guys.

switch on (circuit closed) it starts, switch off (circuit open) it doesn't. Simple and effective.

Can't steal what you can't start.

I wouldn't worry too much about the truck actually being stolen, its not a honda, lexus, infinity, nissan etc. Nobody wants your "big, noisy, smelly" truck. Ha Ha Ha. Seriously though, I think you might be over-thinking the situation. I don't know where you are headed on the east coast, but Trenton, NJ should be way way down on the list of places to worry about. Travel safe either way.

I've lived on the East coast for 40+ years and never had a problem.

Trenton just came to mind first.

Maybe he meant the East coast of Texas!

you here more about trucks being stolen done south (border areas) than out this way.

Of course we learned long ago to take our keys with us... didn't we.

Yes I agree, CTD thefts are much more abundant in the midwest and southwest areas where the trucks seem to be much more desirable. My anti theft is my clutch pedal. Nobody around here can handle a hand shaker :-laf. .

I thought it was funny you actually picked out Trenton, given all the choices of cities on the east coast. I agree, you do need to lock the doors and keep valuables out of sight and take the keys with you, even in your own driveway. Thieves are by nature, lazy, so often the slightest resistance is enough to make them move on to an "easier" target.

I would be more concerned if I was going to a motorsports event or someplace where the true value of the truck is known and/or appreciated.

Works great for two reasons



1 Like you I want protection from Buttheads stealing my Dodge, im for ever finding, IF YOU WANT TO SELL YOUR TRUCK CALL***-**** On the windshield. Kind of makes me think that at least some want it.



2 Sometimes I need to go into a place that I cant take a handgun (yes I have a CC Permit) and need a place to store gun in truck so its there when I get back.



This takes care of both my needs very simple and safe and gives me a place to mount my CB and Kicker if you didn't know about it most wouldn't even know its there as I keep the center console down as an arm rest. I didn't get mine from Geno's but this is a picture of what they look like.

I use this. . it holds up the brake or clutch pedal. if your truck is auto, you have to press the brake to get into gear. If it is held up with this, you cant get it into gear. . you can break in, get it started, but cant go anywhere. If your truck is Manual, you hold up the clutch. . then you cant even start it. .

Got news for you on this!! Seen a Pro Car Thief take care of the Club in about 10 seconds on TV. A simple can of Freon and a large center punch and hammer TOOK CARE OF THAT!!!! NO PROLEM AT ALL.

One of the Big Boss's at work bought some Mercedes high dollar car, and left it out in the street just outside his office window so he could look at it all day long. He got up to get a cup of coffee take a leak and comeback to his office and it was GONE!!!!! He didn't know how or who could do such a thing. I started laughing told him your in Montebello Ca!!!!! These guys came in with a wrecker and 4 guys jumped out like a NASCAR pit crew jacked up the rear slammed a dolly under it while the other two were doing what they had to in the front and away they went, they probably had it striped and selling the scrap metal to the recycling center in less than a couple of hours It was on tape:-laf

One of the best ways I've used to keep anyone from being interested in your vehicle in the 1st place is DON"T make it a career/spectator event of getting out and locking your vehicle! If you bring attention to yourself by hiding/putting stuff away before locking/walking away frfom the vehicle you just told whoever is (possibly) watching you that a) there is something valuable in the car or b) this vehicle might be worthwhile stealing. drive up, park it, get out, lock it, WALK AWAY.

I had a friend in high school that used to make a production out of getting out and locking his car (hiding his tapes, putting all his crap in the console, etc. ). He couldn't understand why he got broke into 3 times, stolen once AND (get this) his CONVERTIBLE top slashed during one of the breal ins! This was after I told him the tapes were easier to replace than the top. Personnally I wouldn't EVER lock a convertible.

Method 1







The best way to remove The Club without the aid of a key requires a can of Freon, the same chemical used to recharge a vehicle's air conditioning unit. You also need the valve stem attachment that comes with it and a hammer or other heavy metal tool. By connecting the valve stem to the can of Freon and then spraying the Freon directly into the slot of the lock, one can cause the metal of the lock to ice over. Keep in mind that Freon under pressure such as this is dangerous if inhaled and should never come into contact with human skin. It's so cold that it will actually cause the metal of the lock to become brittle. A stout impact with a hammer, wrench or tire iron will shatter the frozen metal, allowing The Club to be removed.





The down side to this is that the police don't know if they have a car thief or someone going to a party with a can of INHALEANT HIGH :-laf

A 18volt SAWSALL works good to for the club CUT THE DAMN STERRING WHEEL besides it looks COOL with a skeletonized steering wheel.



I should stop giving away trade secrets you may think that I have done less scrupulous things in my DAY :-laf





PS a BIG pair of bolt cutters work just as fast and in LA Calif nobody would suspect a guy with bolt cutters, but might have a hard time explaining the Freon???



THE CLUB :-laf MIGHT AS WELL JUST LEAVE THE KEYS IN THE DOOR LOCK!!!!

Yeah, Camden is bad and the immediately surrounding areas are shaky from the spillover effect. I don't think anyone actually lives in Camden anymore, but the burned out hulks and abandoned buildings make great hangouts. I do land surveying for a living and Camden is always an exciting trip. We carry the machetes just for effect when down there, even though its a concrete jungle.
