I have a '97 4x4 with an auto, as well as TST plate, gov spring kit, 270 injectors, 16cm housing & AFC spring kit.

I had a DTT VB & TC installed, and I love it, but I keep blowing the resistor in the VB. It lasts for a day or two, then dies. After that, I only get second gear starts.

The shop has replaced the resistor several times, and has put a stock VB back in, and gets the same results.

One odd thing: when the truck is cold, if it's fored up and instantly put into gear, the engine runs rouhly and surges a bit. When that happens, you get 1st gear starts, untill you shut off the ignition. If you start it and wait more than just a few seconds, it runs fine and gets 2nd gear starts. This is according to the trans shop.

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tackett

I had the same transmission mods intalled, and when my truck is cold the transmission will not start in first either. When the transmission warms up a little, and i turn the ignition off and back on the truck will start in first. I have to change my resister also.
YOU need to call Bill Kondally, he will know what to do. DTT has a awsome customer service. I hope this helped you

Since it is doing it with both the stock vb and our vb i dont believe it is pressure related. The most likely culprit is the transducer.

Contact Stefan at the shop, and have him send you a new wiring harness, (wiring harness, governor solenoid , and transducer)
depending on the pcm output on the voltage .
tell him 100ohm resistor and 150ohm resistor.

Since yours is actually blowing the resistor , there has to be a surge somewhere.
(check the voltage output at pin #31, the orange wire, it should read 5 volts)

Bill

az,
What is happening to you and austin are two different things,

If its only doing it once in a while, the resistor value could be too high.
The PCM wants to see a certain pressure, if it it fails to see that it can put you into limp mode , (2nd or 3rd gear starts)

Once you recycle the key it is fine again.
The best place to start is here, do a voltage reading on pin 31, on 1996-1999 rams the voltage reading varies considerably on pin 31. If the pcm voltage is below 5. 12 , use 100 ohm resistor. If the pcm volatage is above 5. 12 use 150 ohm resistor.

Doing these types of tweaking is very difficult to explain on paper, while it is something we do daily in our shop, it does sometimes take a few tries for guys to get it correctly that are not used to setting up this .

In other words , if you went up in resistor size and you still have the symptoms, try a lower resistor instead of higher.

The higher the resistor you put in the lower pressure the computer thinks you have.
EG. if you have 150ohm resistor in your wiring harness, and you occasionally get 2nd or 3rd gear starts, and you turn the key off, and every thing ok till the next time it happens, so you change to a 200 ohm resistor, and it still does it, you may have to use 100 ohm resistor to fool the computer and let it see what it needs to.

While this is difficult in the field, our inhouse techs use an otc scanner so they see what the computer sees so the adjustments for us are easy.

Call Darrin or Vinny in our shop for more tech support if necessary they can talk you through it.

I am in Colorado till Sat. however i am available if you need me. Call the shop and they can give you my cell #'s or leave me a number and i will call you.
