I'm a new owner of a 2001 2500. It is a white 4X4 that won't fit in the garage. I think it is one of the most "popular" stolen vehicles in So Cal. I live in San Diego ten minutes from Mexico. Lo Jac is worthless here because stolen vehicles end up in Mexi faster than you can say Carne Asada. I live near a bad neighborhood (doesn't really matter anyway in San Diego). I've already had one car broken into for a $100 radio. I'm paranoid as hell. I want to install alarm and dual kill switches, but the problem is that as part of my upgrade plan I want to us the Isspro R4130 Turbo Temp Monitor. How would this work with kill switches and alarm? Has anyone done this? Can I have my cake and eat it too? Should I rig a line of tin cans or perhaps set up a perimeter of Claymores?

quick and dirty at least till you get the system you want would be to pull the starter relay, takes a few seconds after you open the hood, i am not sure where it is on a 24v but it's marked which one is which on the lid of my relay box

could someone pm me this info as well? i had my baby stolen not to long ago and have a line on a good deal for a 2000 but am hesitant to buy again until i'm sure i can protect it better. i think the alarm and kill switch combo would at least alot me much more time to kill a thief this time around if they try again. last time it took them about 90 seconds.

I just went to Best Buy to price alarm systems. The one I think I'm going with is a Viper with remote start. $400 installed. The tech said that the remote start could be set up with a diesel. The alarm comes with an integrated kill switch that makes the vehicle inoperable while the alarm is activated. I may also install one or two kill switches besides that just incase someone could get around the alarm. The tech I talked to has an alarm installed on his turbo rice burner w/ turbo temp timer. The only catch is that you have to wait until the thing shuts down completely to arm the system before you walk away. BTW, the higher end Viper systems also come with two way transmitter that notifies you when your truck is being tampered with as long as you are within a certain distance. Set the remote on your bedstand and hopefully it wakes you up and you can go outside with your 44 mag before the ***** get's away with your goods.

Jeff,

I hate it for you man, but don't let it get you down. I'll post again when I get a security system installed. For now I'm still shopping. I want to find someone to put in extra kill switches and Best Buy wouldn't do it.

BTW, buying a used Dodge diesel in San Diego is tough. I had to go to Orange to get mine. Be cautious of used truck dealers. Check them out good. They get them from auctions, throw some cheap paint on them, call them "imaculate" and sell them for a premium. If you have a line on one, and you know it's a good one, go for it. The best way is to find a private seller who wants to trade in for an upgrade but doesn't want to take chicken scratch from a dealer for their used ride.

Good luck.

thanks BKabe

the truck i'm looking at is in flagstaff arizona and i know it's complete history. been friends with the guy for years. truck is a commuter vehicle in a small town..... zero abuse... never towed with..... bone stock. same truck in san diego would cost me approx $8k more.

$400 installed sounds like a good deal to me... ... is it the best buy in chula wanna?

Get a spare relay, grind off a couple of the stabs and re-place it with the normal one when you want to drive your truck. The ECM relay would work also.

I got to thinking that likely the idea about the ECM relay won't work.

You could do a couple of kill switches, just hook them inline with either your clutch no-start switch or your nuetral saftey switch on the auto. Its easy, just find the wire, cut it and put a switch in there (with some extra wire, to route it to the cab of course).

I have a few hidden kill switches in my truck. I mount one by the E-brake so that it looks like Im just pulling the ebrake while im turning it back on.

I have the others hidden in better places, for when Im gonna be away from it longer or what not.

I also re-taped all the wiring and put a split loom over it to make it harder to trace.

You may PM LOtero on here. He has the clifford RSX alarm on his and it has some sort of built in turbo timer. maybe he can help you out... I do know that he can leave the truck alarmed and running when we get out of it. no waiting involved. .
