Anybody from the Black hills??

Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting Lower Klamath-Tulelake

Interested in buying or trading for one. Does anyone have any information on whether they are worth the prices they are bringing? They seem to be almost twice what other . 45's are going for.

Thanks,

Jay

Well those Kimbers are pretty much a custom gun anyway and the 45's are in big demand these days. Additionally, the Pro CDP II is one of their "Custom Shop" units with the full treatment. Why don't you surf the GunsAmerica site and get a better feel for prices. I have seen some folks selling their Kimbers at the shows due to the economy but that's a crap shoot sometimes.

My dad had a military issue Springfield 1911 stolen out of his truck last year. My brother and I went in together and got him a Kimber, I forget the model. I'm not a 1911 fan, but that is the nicest shooting piston I have ever handled. Made me want to throw away all my Glocks, Springield, Para and whatever else I have to get Kimbers. From my limited experience, I'd say there worth just about what ever they charge.

I bought the Ultra CDP II a couple months ago. It has the full custom shop treatment and is a pleasure handle and shoot. Well balanced and the bull barrel helps with a lot with muzzle jump. I'm satisfied with the quality versus the price. It's a bit heavier than my Glocks for carry. Galco makes a holster for Kimber that Kimber brands and resells from their site. It does a good job of distributing the weight on a belt. Can be had a bit cheaper from Glaco without the branding, naturally.

I bought one about a year ago shoots great, feels good, and carries well also only had 2 malfunctions with it and they were after 200-250 rounds of Wolf brand without any cleaning it's cheap but dirty ammo. I say it's worth the extra bucks the shame is getting ammo of any brand right now.

Kimber is a quality product and 1911's are hot right now.

Their marketing department should get a gold star...

ya gotta have toys :D i paid a good bit for the . 45 but i got a screaming deal on the 38 super from a guy that runs one of the local gun shops that had planned to compete with it but changed his mind and sold it after doing a trigger job and maybe firing a few rounds though it, but only a few, i wouldn't of set it quite that light (1. 75#) but after you warm up it is sweet, it is NOT one of my carry pieces

WDixon,

You could have gone all day without posting those pictures. I'm drooling all over my keyboard. :)

Update on my Ultra CDP II

After about 300-350 rounds of mixed ammo I got into a box of Federal UMC 185 gr FMJ. I had been shooting through some cheap Fiachi 230 gr FMJ and other ball junk I picked up at a gun show several years ago. With the UMC ammo I had 4 instances where the slide locked prematurely after the 3rd or 4th shot. My initial impression was that the radius of the bullet was occasionally brushing the slide lock trip as the pistol cycled. A call to Kimber technical service confirmed that and they sent me an updated slide lock that has a greater clearance. So far, so good after another 100 rounds of UMC. After a few searches, I found I was not the only one to encounter this issue. In all cases, the ammo involved was ball ammo, never hollow points. In all the cases I found, either the free Kimber replacement or a replacement from Wilson Combat corrected the issue.

On the lighter side, this fine specimen of NC redneck had a difficult time communicating with the Kimber tech support guy located in Yonkers, NY. Maybe I Should have dialed in The Patriot for a three way conference call. Wasn't sure the guy got all my info correct until the part showed up 2 days later. Closed the call with me saying "Thank ya', Bo. 'Preciate that. " and him saying "Yo, fugetaboutit, piece o' cake. "

I have a Kimber Pro Carry II . 45 . . And absolutely love it. . It stays in the truck and i actually pull it out and shoot it quite frequently. . Haven't shot a whole lot of . 45's but i have shot a taurus and a glock, and like my kimber much more. .
