If and when you do your Baja test trip your all all welcomed to come visit me at my place in Abreojos. First one there gets the bed!

Hmmmm... I already have a bed at my good friend Chelo's place... but when I get there first I'll donate it to first place loser :{

I spoke with Chelo last night and she said the fiesta is at her place when we arrive...

Will keep you posted. Oo.

Lorenz,

Your tower is an extremely simple part. Leaving it rusty doesn't instill confidence in the potential buyer. The thing could be stick welded and very strong. It wouldn't look quite as sexy as a good tig weld, but the point is, weld quality is not the whole picture.

Funny thing is 90% of the people that said "the picture had something to be desired," already had a KORE kit on their truck. Thus, no dime in the game? I guess we could skim through psychology 101 again and disifer what that means, but we'll save that for another forum.

As for your comments about us in the 90% clan, our feedback should be what you want. We are the guys who are willing to buy stuff that is worth a damn. Figure out your market!

Pysch 101? How about English101? I am trying to decipher what disifer means? Ha ha.

It wasn't rusty. I think you were seeing the uneven finish of the pickled/scaled new metal. My protoype was brand new metal. I ground around the weld before welding and the shinny vs. scaled/pickled is what you saw. Add heat penetration marks and a 1meg camera and I can see how you may have thought it was rust?

That same tower was at the Diesel round up for everyone to see. I also left it unfinished on my truck so I could pinpoint any cracks or weak spots in the design. I've abused the same underbuilt prototype for months with too long of a shock and there hasn't been any issues. I left the KING shock on and have let it bottom out metal to metal to see if I can break the tower. Something to be said for KING as well, there still on the original seal.

The production tower is . 200 wall vs . 120 wall (prototype). It has billit steel bungs vs welded tube (prototype), and is a bit thicker all around. Im also using grade 8 hardware in the prototype vs F911 bolts for production. Sway-a-way shocks do not bottom out on them selves. Fox and KING will.

I did figure the market. You already had the KORE system, thus are not in the market for another tower... ?

Tim,do you know if Chelo's daughter made it back to town? She was looking for a ride back to Abreojos from southern Ca. GTani(aka whistler)

I'm in the market for a suspension system.

My challenge is garage clearance. And since I live in a condo, there is not other place to park, so I have what I have (I did "relocate" a 10' section of a wall about 2' to accommodate the length :-laf ). I have 1" of space above the Snug Top shell. Considering I now have stock tires, I'd like to save that space for when I get 285 tires, so I need to keep the rear ride height stock. I haven't measured at the cab, but with the subroof tilted up, I have about an inch above the sunroof, which means about 2" of total clearance with it closed. This MAY give me 2-2. 5" of lift potential in the front (though not considering the tires).

So my challenge is finding a system that will fit my limits. I PM'd one suspension vendor with these concerns, but I never got a response, so I'm open to any advice on what I can do. I do drive to baja, and understand the value of a good system.

On a side note, I was at the Baja 1000 chasing for a couple vehicles, and we were driving a 2000 2nd gen with a V10. The truck only had about 80k miles, much from driving in Baja. But even with so few miles, the truck was hammered from driving there with the stock suspension. That was the loosest late 2nd gen I'd been in (my early 2nd gen was actually looser with even fewer miles, but my later 2nd gen has stayed somewhat tight for the miles it's seen - the later ones stay tighter longer). I'd like to preserve the life of this truck a bit longer - especially with the Snug Top shell.

You are going to have to give up the search :-laf My truck might be well cared for but she sleeps outside. You won't gain much by going up 1. 5" except a little more travel on the compression side. You might want to just put on some better shocks and leave it at that. Most systems will add about 2. 5-3" of height. My Kore system was right at 3" frt and rear + the tire increase was another2-3" on top of that.

Working in OC :(

Bob

Yeah, I've been somewhat coming to that conclusion, but I don't have much faith in the regular off-the-shelf shocks. I've been hoping to at least greatly improve the suspension with the height I have to work with. After all, the Honda Ridgeline that ran the 1000 (yeah, I know, it DNF'd, thanks to the soft sidewall BFGs and the boobytraps, and by no fault of the truck's) had the stock travel of just over practically nothing :p But the ride was improved considerably with a set of custom Kings and springs. Maybe the snowplow prep springs would help my truck?

Parking outside isn't really an option. Often times, I'd have to park about a quarter mile away. While I don't mind the excercise, it's a pain to load and unload stuff and the parking police have cars towed in the time it takes to walk into the back door! They're fast!) And of course the rain (as seldom as it rains in OC) makes matters worse.

Bob, I hear you work over with Tony B - he probably doesn't like me (at least he recognized his actions weren't right and settled before the date). But it's good to hear there is a local top-notch tech! (I live in Buena Park. )

I agree with Bob.

Leave the original coils. I may be able to make a set of "no lift" Coil springs in a higher spring rate. Then again I haven't tested it and don't know how it will work...

The shock is were your going to get 80% of the ride your looking for. Deavers thinking on the subject is the same. Springs are for carrying capacity and ride height. Quality race shocks dampen the ride. They had this on there website but it looks like it's down. I would've copied the link...

I hope it wasn't me you contacted. I would've gotten back to you, with a yes or no, if I recieved the email.

Top Gun

I put top guns on mine, got them off ebay. They are hard core. No that expensive. I haven't had any problems that I know of yet. I think they were top gun,. They came life time warranty.

Greg, what all has been done to the charcoal 3500 in post#66 ? Also what size tires? I'd hoped to start my build up but have to wait for spring to build a Bigger garage!
