KORE Racing attacks Baja 1000 in a Cummins

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Cute- look at what Ford has done now...

Vintage TDR Magazines

Carnivalworker, all I've seen in posts from you is you ripping on people's trucks (the guy with the big chrome wheels) or posting trashy nonsense like above. Really classy, posting a pic of some road side ***** house girl's butt on the TDR. I'm sure there are some more appropriate forums for that - but then again - we 27 year old 'geezers' don't like things like that. .

Congrats go to Kent. I'm interested in the repair list from the race. I will point out that it's pretty safe to say that Kent tests his products thoroughly!!

That is an incredible feat. Congratulations to you and your team. Are these events broadcast on TV?? I've seen bits and pieces it seems weeks or months afterwards but not a real good in depth coverage.

Every year I watch the Paris - Dakar Rally which generally has none or very few American entries. Every year, I think, someone should build a offroad Cummins powered Ram and go over there and win it for USA. Most times it's one by some Japanese custom 4WD race truck like Mitsubishi. One year their were a few Hummers that didn't do all that well. Reliability is the key as the event is two weeks long with a new stage every day. It is brutal and really showcases the worlds best built machines. Attrition is heavy, most don't finish at all.

I think you guys need to enter the 2006 race. :D If your team is willing, start a Team USA fund, I'll be the first to donate! :) I'm sure Dodge and Cummins might throw in some small help.

Me too!!!!!

What broke and what would you do to make it better?

#3 in a class of how many starters? A truck that heavy is NOT supposed to function like that! Oo. And he drove it home... ... Good job Kent! and KORE. What a team!

I'd like to see the MPG figures for the winners, and more stories about the fender to fender wash board runs you mentioned!

Hey Mike,

They didn't brake one part. No Flats, not even a lug nut was taken off of the truck during the race. They changed Air Filters at the pits and fueled up. Truck ran like a champ. Gail Banks personally worked on the programming for the Six Gun/Speed loader. Very reliable, Gobs of power, and no EGT issues.

For three months we worked on the truck. I would go to San Diego every week on my days of and do crappy little jobs to the truck for prep. One night we had bumped the front suspension about 300 times trying to figure out the custome bumpstop mounts. I sat up and bumped my head on the stupid bumper I built, said" Now this is what racing is all about. " Kroeker just died laughing. We worked on his truck until 10 pm the night before the race installing rear limit straps. It would seem stuff like that would be easy but it takes forever. Forever! We did our job building the truck for the race and Kent did his job driving for 29 and a half hours. Heinous!!! That is the sickest part. When he finished he called me and said," Dude, I have just been going 90 mph for the last 29 hours. I am amped!!!" The guy is a psycho!!! He took a truck that your supposed to pull your boat to the river with, beefed it beyond belief, and raced it in the toughtest race in North America. Then he finished in third, and drove home. The only trucks to beat him were factory sponsered $500,000 race truck. He did mention that he passed them on the HWY driving home. They were both on trailers... . Sissy factory racers. What a psycho!! Kroeker is the man!! Maybe we can convince him to come to the December 11th picnic.

Yea, I guess I did say wicked but I couldn't find the words that would express what a cool thing the team did.

So..... ?#()!! Its Wickedly Cool. :-laf

Kore

I noticed Team KORE recommends a certain rim, is this rim their design and only avialble from KORE? I'm assuming the tires can be bought at any tire shop that cares that brand.

The wheel KORE sells is designed by Weld for KORE to there specs. It is only available through KORE. It has the same offset as the stock wheels and is much stronger. It is a very nice wheel with a great look. Yes, the tires can be bought at your local store. It is a great combo and has no rubbing issues at all. The Toyo tires KORE ran in the Baja didn't even flat. I bet BFG or GY cant say that!!!

Amazing K

:) This remarkable showing by our Dodge and KORE should temper some of the general dismissive remarks and opinions about Banks in this passion of ours.

Biased viewpoint admitted

jh,

You are right. I am now eating crow. When Kent Kroeker told me he was going to Banks to get his truck hopped up I was agast! "What do you mean your going to Banks?" I asked loudly... . "I can make more power for less money and that is just the way it is. " I have driven the truck Kent raced and it is sick. So much power, no EGT issues, and no failures in 29 hours strait!!!

Go Banks

Greg

Most of us have never ragged on the quality of Banks equipment just the cost. There can be advantages of a system that has been designed to work with the other components. The also can be advantages in mix and match.

KORE Racing

I hope the KORE experience and knowledge will be shared especially regarding the management of EGT temperature at such power levels and hard use. I certainly have not even come close to achieving a system that won't easily reach >1250 EGT pre turbo although with winter arriving I will have more ceiling to run hard

I just got hooked up with Kore engineering I hope to be selling their products soon I sell whiplash but they are just huge lifts no long travel. The first time I saw a picture of a cummins in the air I thought I gotta sell that. Congrats to Kent be talking to you soon

The guys at Banks worked on the KORE race truck for something like 12 hours. I wasn't there but it was very intense. They programmed the truck to Kents liking. Then they installed an intercooler, Big Hoss Intake Ram, Big Head turbo wastegate, and custom made 4" exhaust. They dynoed the truck over and over and set it not to defuel at all before 1250*. Even so, the truck runs real cool, all the time and almost never has to defuel. Kore has to run a paper filter because there isn't a filter out yet that helps with the dust of Baja. The truck pulls real hard as soon as you hit the throttle. I was amazed how their programming can be customized.

I also want you guys to know that I am just a friend of KORE, I do work on the truck and am a member of Kents team but thats it. The opinions that I offer are just that, MHO... ... I am very proud of what was accomplished by the team but KORE is responsible for the design, engineering, and r&d. It is fairly easy to come in late to something already cool and give a hand. There are thousands of miles of hard off road abuse in the testing of every KORE product. The end result of beefing the truck is a race effort for the Baja 500. After not finishing that race due to time, The company decieded to go for the Gusto. Baja 1000. It takes 6 months for the prep. We broke the truck three times a week befor the race out here. Then we fixed it, and tried to break it again. After new diffs, and a few minor beefings they finished the race without any problems. The power made by Banks is smooth, reliable power. Not neck jarring drag race power but constant smooth power. You only need what your vehicle is able to handle. Now, could Banks make more power? I would say gobbs more if needed. Does the Kore race team need more power? Not yet! If we do, Banks will be able to handle all we need. I have heard talk of VGT technology and more fuel too. Gail Banks is at the cutting edge of technology when it comes to the Cummins. It is his favorite. period.

AAM,

The front blew up in the desert of 29 Palms, and the rear was made into a Lincoln locker. The gearing was changed to 4. 10's too. Both were replaced a week before the race.
