I've got something of a fascination with old timey Coleman lanterns. My father has one that's at least 30 years old (still works great) and I've wanted one for some time. Today was finally my day. Picked up the beauty below this afternoon. It's the modern interpretation of the classic; I only wish it were "classic" Coleman green. It's a little different from my Dad's old one, but I think his was white gas only and this one can also use gasoline. Thought I'd bring it up here and see if there are other lantern fans out there.

There's a certain satisfaction I get from lighting off one of these things that you just don't get from clicking on a flashlight switch.

My dad still has 4 of the old style one. We used them when we lived in Florida back from 60 to 68 out at the beach when we would go camping and crabbing. Moved up to Idaho in 68 and they got used heavy there. He has them out in the shop. They all still work, we just need a set of mantles for one and a glass for another.

They are simple in design and last forever when taken care of :)

I have a Coleman propane model I use when camping, but still have two of the older style gas models that belonged to my Dad. One is green and the other is red. Not sure if the older ones still work or not.

I got a single burner campstove made by coleman that from what I have been told dates by to the late forties. It has eight strips that fold out from the center to make a larger base for what ever you might set on it. The fuel comes out of a jet and shoots up to the underside of a plate that when hot, atomizes the fuel. No carburizing tube on this model. It is quite a sight when you first get it lit... . fire boiling out from under the little plate... . until it gets hot then she runs fine. Almost burned down my tent when I was a kid, trying to boil water.

The unit is chrome not green or red, and says Coleman ingraved on the side.

I have a couple of Coleman propane lanterns. I have the Coleman distribution tube that connects to my 20lb tank. I only buy the 1lb bottles for one of them for portability. Eveything else runs on the 20lb tank i. e. Lantern, bbq, stove etc...
