Anyone watch the show? Kind of a take of from American Chopper, not quite as good but, I could not believe the latest show when Bluebear got fired, what was he thinking? He had a golden opertunity and threw it away over boxing a frame. Is boxing a frame that big of a bad thing in classic rat rods? Does anyone know what Boyd and Bluebears history was, they mentioned it a couple times, seems he was pretty young and not as experienced as a lot of the other guys in the shop that must have been with Boyd longer than him.

IMHO bluebear was a lazy smart-***, who didn't have a clue and couldn't find one. What an opportunity that kid had and he just wastes it, with all the talent working in that place it would take 20 years to absorb 1/10th of all that experience.

They do some neat stuff but Boyd and the overall theme leaves me cold. I would rather watch Chip Foose on Rides.

I love the cars that Boyd's builds and respect the management skills it takes to get to where Boyd is, but there isn't enough money in the Federal reserve to get me to work for Boyd or even sit in the same room as Dwane ( the shop foreman).

I like watching the chick on "Overhaulin. " She's dumber than a box of rocks, but I like the show. You can have Hot Rod and Chopper with all the make believe drama. I just want to see the before and after and building in-between. Save the overacted hype for daytime TV.

Boyd is a funny character to me (not in a good way).

Dwane the foreman has absolutely no management skills.

I would have absolutely no respect for Boyd or Dwayne, even his own guys don't like him (its pretty obvious).

Boyd seems out of touch.

Maybe its the "no one can tell just for men" hair coloring on his beard soaking in.

It seems like when Blue Bear starting beating Boyd at his own game, that was it fired.

I do however think the Paul the owner of OCC is very respectable and a good guy (pretty obvious).

It was funny how Bluebear got away with a lot of crap... constantly being a smartarse punk... never got him in trouble.

But when they were in the 1st and 2nd shows about the mustang ... on each show someone got fired simply for making a comment that boyd or dwayne didn't like... and the one kid actually showed some promise.

I say good riddance of Bluebear BUT I'm not thoroughly impressed with the show as a whole... and yes coddington puts out some nice hotrods... but I don't have respect for him beyond the cars... as a person, boss, etc... UH-UH.

I wonder how much of its "Hollywood". I say that because you see all the sweet cars being built, or in the shop, and I am left thinking NONE of the knuckleheads on the program are capable of building them. The old man Roy, is pretty talented, and Charley the body shop foreman seems to be very talented with a good work ethic. But the rest of them seem worthless. As far as the recent story line, the scene up in the office left me confused. Bluebears and Boyd's bickering put the other guys on BB's team in a tough spot. Either way, they stood to make their boss or co-worker/friend unhappy, as well as not having fun at work and being stressed. In the office they should have gotten an apology for the predicament they were put in. Daune's motivation skills are not that of a leader or manager- more like someone that needs a asphalt adjustment.

I think it was the best thing Boyd did, and about time. I think Bluebear was a son of a friend in the family.

Being the son of a friend explains alot, I'm surprised the other guys in the shop put up with him and even seemed to like him.

I suspect "Hollywood" scripts most of what goes on there - seems American Chopper has formed the constant controversy and vocal confrontation scenario others seem compelled to emulate. And as an individual who HATES abusive confrontation, those formats leave me cold! The Hotrod bit with Boyd, and that ignoramous "head machinist" airhead, and some of the others seemingly live in an atmosphere that no REAL shop could exist in - but then, Boyd is no stranger to bankruptcy, either... ;)

Charlie, the body shop foreman

is no longer with Boyd`s. At least according to one of the guys where I work. He says his brother & Charlie`s brother are buds. If this is all on the up & up, he shopuld be leaving soon. Time will tell. I agree about Dwayne being a derelict of a boss. I would either punch him & get fired, or just quit. ( Then punch him. ) I think Mikey (Teutel) & Blue Bear are both idiots, & need to be sterilized before they dilute the gene pool. That being said, I want their jobs! DK.

I don't know if anybody remembers boyds last shop when chip foose was working for him he turned the whole thing over to chip then went BK. and left chip holding the bag. Boyd is a real piece of work. A friend of mine was at a big car show and was first in line to get in and boyd and his cronies tried to push him back behind them but, Corkey don't take no bs from him or the promoters and got in first. The funny thing was the winning cars were already printed on the T-Shirts and guess who's cars won!

Har, those TV shows are way off the mark when it comes to REAL wrenching. They need to start a REAL mechanic's reality show, kind of like Overhaulin' but without the shop. Maybe some poor idiot like me trying to work on his truck in his driveway. They could call it "Butt Thumbin' " and pull in a whole new demographic

*************

Week 1: Trying to get oil filter off of a new Dodge Cummins without a supermodel to hand you wrenches and beer

Week 2: Crawling under a 2nd Gen to change the fuel filter - plus SPECIAL BONUS SEGMENT: Frying on the burning hot driveway or working in the dark - which is better?

Week 3: Changing the spark plugs on your brother-in-law's beater

Week 4: Oh Honey, I forgot to tell you Jimbo borrowed all your tools

Week 5: Duct tape and baling wire - secret to great body work

Week 6: How to Sunburn your butt crack while thrashing around under the hood of your truck

Week 7: Advanced Design for Maintainability - disassembling your entire truck to change the heater core

Week 8: What are all these extra parts for?

Week 9: Dealing with your brother-in-law who tells you that you are doing it wrong but never gets out of the lawn chair

A good freind of mine owns a bike shop, and has for over 25yrs. They

don't make trikes out of semi's or robots out of trashcans, just chopper building. When Boyd saw a market for bike parts he started making wheels and other stuff, and people were excited about it. His parts were trash. There were a set of Boyds wheels, nice looking 5 spoke design that someone ordered that were so out of true you wondered who would ship this scrap, and they weren't cheap and they weren't stood behind, boyd had a breakdown or a divorce or bankrupt or something other than being a man of his word,so my buddy ate the cost and we swap meeted them down the road at a big loss, and learned about dealing w/BOYd.

I don't know a whole lot about what's going on at Boyd's, but I do know a little. I know the guy that Boyd built most of the cars on the show for (AlumiTub, the Mustang, and a few others that haven't been on that show), and he's friendly with Boyd, so this info has come from him. All the drama on that show is scripted, but Boyd is somewhat of jerk and a little difficult to work for. Many of those guys have left to work for Chip Foose. Also, California is investigating Boyd's shop. Has something to do with where the titles are coming from for the cars he builds and why they aren't getting their piece of the action. We'll see what happens.

Check out www.hotrods2die4.com

Many of those cars that Boyd has built for this guy are there and some are for sale, others will be at Barrett Jackson in 05.

True the cars are very nice but the credit don't belong to boyd it belongs to the guys that did the work!Anyone can run a shop but without people with skill it won't fly. Chip ain't afraid to jump in and get his hands dirty. As they old saying goes"lead by example". And yes it is the DMV that is doing the investigating. Had a few cars that had original titles and nothing on the cars were original.

wasn't just Boyds that have issues with DMV. . a bunch of the Kit car guys are in real deep do do over registrations... many will have to do all the smog law issues with their rides, as DMV pulled all registration info on them. . I know a bunch of the Superformance Cobra guys who have that issue.
